Policy & AdvocacyWe achieved a huge win in Illinois thanks to the hard work and passion of our incrediblevolunteers. Change the Air Foundation led the charge for SB 1087, the Mold RemediationRegistration Act—a groundbreaking law designed to protect people in Illinois from thehealth risks of mold in water-damaged buildings. Policy & AdvocacyThis year, we funded our first national policy brief designed to provide a roadmap forpolicymakers, legislators, and others working at the state and federal levels to addressissues related to mold and dampness in our homes and buildings. ResearchRESEARCH GRANTSIn 2023, our $75,000 research grant was awarded to Dr. Neil Nathan and Dr. Jill Crista tofund their MoldIQ Research Initiative. In 2024, we sat down with Dr. Crista for an updateon their research and how those in the community can get involved. You can get thelatest updates on this critical research here and here. RESEARCH GRANT UPDATEFUTURE OPPORTUNITIESPoor indoor air quality continues to be an overlooked and underfunded public health issue. Tohelp bridge the gap, Change the Air Foundation periodically offers small-scale researchgrants to passionate researchers, medical professionals, and other individuals committed toimproving the lives of those affected by poor indoor air quality. Building AdvisoryCommitteeThis year, we established our Building Advisory Committee, co-chaired by Brian Tinkerand Andy Pace. This committee brings together industry experts from related fields todevelop a set of building, remodeling, and basic home inspection standards that will assistthose who are concerned with mold and chemical exposure in their homes.
