2024-25 ISSUE 27 BCC WEEKLY NEWS14th October 2024FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESKLGBTQ+ Quality markWe are delighted to announce that we have signed up for the LGBTQ+ Quality Mark. This isrun by the group Belong To, who support LGBTQ+ young people. The programme will be ledby a group of teachers who have volunteered to be involved over the next 18 months. We willalso be including our whole school community: students, parents, staff and the Board ofManagement. Our students are wonderful at taking part in our annual Stand Up Week, butwe would aim to become more inclusive. We want to help our LGBTQ+ community feel saferand have an increased sense of belonging in our school on an ongoing basis. We hope toorganise some fun activities in the processBCC BAKE OFF
2What an enormous success! The cast and crew of the upcoming musical baked adelicious array of biscuits, cakes, pies, buns and much more, to raise money for theproduction. It was well supported by students and organised by Ms Gilheany and MsShirran. Students voted for the top baker; Isabella Duggan, who was a truly worth winnerwith her gorgeous creations. She was awarded a handmade wooden cake stand, madeby Mr OSullivan. Thanks to all student bakers, teachers and customers who made theday such a successBCC BAKE OFF

6CAREERS6th Year Parents Information EveningThis will be taking place next Tuesday 15th October at 7:30pm. We will have LauraCreevey from Maynooth University, who will speak about the CAO, HEAR & DARE; andAedeen Lyster from Inchicore College who will speak about Further Education and how itlinks to 3rd level. Ms. Lillis will also introduce resources & give a brief introduction to SUSI,the grant system.Please note that students are very welcome to attend. First Year Parents Information NightOur thanks to those parents who attended this meeting on Monday last where parentsreceived feedback on recent parent & Student questionnaires as well as meeting Mr Swanand hearing about the roles of Class Tutor, Year Head and Guidance Counsellor. Mr. Burkeand Mr Kelly were also in attendance to provide clarification on parents’ queries. We will bedoing some follow up work with first year students based on the issues that arose.

8JERSEY DAYGOAL Jersey dayFriday 11th of October, our students supported Jersey Day. It was great to see so manystudents tog out and donate to such a worthy cause.
9BASKETBALL STARS3 of our 1st years qualified for the Leinster 2024/25 Basketball Ireland U14 Academy Aoibheann Ash , Amelia Keogh & Ava Neilan had plenty of competition with over 1000 girlsregister for the trials which took place over 2 days. All 3 girls are delighted to be selectedfrom so many. The Basketball Ireland Regional and Provincial Academy structure is the foundation of adevelopment pathway for players and coaches with an ambition and potential to perform atthe highest levels of our sport. It opens a development and performance pathway for more players across the country in atime when there are more National League opportunities presenting themselves countrywide as well as being the pathway to the international teams. The girls currently play for Naas Serpents under the watchful eye of Steven Neilan & JohnKeogh and are just kicking off their season. They hope to contribute to the schoolbasketball team once the season starts. We are proud of them here in BCC and wish them all the best for the season.
