SOUTH CANTERBURY AMATEUR ATHLETICS CLUBPresidents Message. As I reflect on the 2024/25 athletics season, it is clear to me that South Canterbury Athletics Club (SCAAC) has faced its share of challenges. The loss of our home has tested our resilience and I know we are stronger for it, and our athletes, coaches, and supporters have continued to show remarkable commitment and passion for the Club and Track & Field athletics. Despite all the obstacles, our club has remained competitive and engaged, with strong performances across all age groups. We have seen personal bests shattered, new talent emerge, and a continued dedication to excellence from everyone involved. A couple of highlights over the season was Tom Walsh and Lauren Bruce competing at the Paris Olympics and of course Tom Walsh’s incredible victory at the World Indoor Championships in Shot Put, all moments of immense pride for our club and a testament to the level of talent we continue to develop. Additionally, our junior and senior athletes have excelled at regional and national competitions, with multiple podium finishes and outstanding performances across a wide range of events. The unwavering support from our volunteers and families has ensured that training, competitions, and events could continue. While I acknowledge the challenges, we also look forward with optimism. I remain committed to growing our membership, securing a stable training base, and fostering a thriving environment for our athletes. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the success of this season – your support and dedication make all the difference. Here’s to an even stronger year ahead! Adam Blake President, South Canterbury Athletics Club
3The South Canterbury Athletics Club is proud to announce a significant step forward in promoting inclusivity and recognition for all athletes. After a thorough consultation with both Athletics New Zealand and Athletics Canterbury, the Club’s committee has decided to introduce official records for Para Athletes. The initial benchmark for these records has be set at 65% of the current National Records for each Classification and event. This percentage has been carefully determined to ensure fairness and inclusivity while providing a strong foundation for future achievements. Importantly, these records will be available to all certified Para Athletes according to their specific classification. The process for applying for Para Athlete records will align with the existing procedures for able-bodied athletes. Those seeking recognition will need to follow the same application guidelines as outlined on the clubs website, ensuring consistency across all levels of competition. This ensures that all athletes, regardless of classification, are held to the same high standards of performance verification and achievement. This initiative reflects our commitment to fostering a truly inclusive and supportive environment for all members of our athletics community. We believe that every athlete’s hard work, dedication, and success deserve recognition, and we are excited to witness the achievements that will emerge under this new framework. For any inquiries regarding the new records or the application process, please reach out to the Club committee. South Canterbury Athletics Club CommitteeNew Para Athlete Records for SCAAC
