It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2024-2025 season of the Lively Arts.As you will see in the brochure, this season’s events are both exciting and broad in theirscope, which matches the broad offerings in our new College of Arts, Humanities, Media,and Public Affairs. You will see international performers, guest artists, excitingperformances and exhibitions, festivals, plays, musicals, opera, and celebrations of ourworld. He has also worked with some of the biggest names in comedy todayincluding Joe Rogan, Bert Kreischer, Pete Davidson, Michael Che, and Mike Epps.Jessi Campbell’s high energy performances have taken her all over the country. She hasperformed at over 1,000 colleges nationwide. Jessi has also performed at Gilda’sLaughFest, The Boston Comedy Festival, and The Great American Comedy Festival. Mid-Autumn Moon FestivalCelebrationSeptember 15, 4-6:00 PMCogswell Hall, Room 120Free EventEnjoy music, poems, stories, and more incelebration of the traditional mid-Autumn Festival, also known as theMoon Festival. This holiday celebratesthe eighth full moon each year, which isAugust 15th on the lunar calendar(September 17 in 2024). This Sundayevent kicks off a series of celebrationactivities. Join us for a special screening of the award-winning ethnographic film A Thousand Pines followedby a Q & A with acclaimed filmmaker and anthropologist Noam Osband. About A Thousand Pines: The United States is the world's largest producer of wood and paperproducts, and each year the industry relies almost entirely on foreign guest workers who plant overone billion trees to replenish harvested forests. This intimate documentary explores the hiddenworld of guest workers regrowing America’s forests and the challenges the workers and theirfamilies face. Pizza and attendance vouchers will be provided. All are welcome!Noam Osband is a filmmaker, radio producer, and anthropologist. His first feature was thenationally-broadcast film Adelante, and his documentary, The Radical Jew, won Best Short Doc atthe Charlotte and Tallgrass Film Festivals. He is also a radio and print journalist, whose bylinesinclude The Atlantic, BBC4, Criminal, and Freakonomics Radio.Anthropology in Action is a speaker series highlighting the diversity of work being done byanthropologists today, providing an opportunity for students to meet and learn from practicingprofessionals. EDUCATIONALOUTREACHArtsPath is one of 14 organizations in thestate that partner with the PennsylvaniaCouncil on the Arts in providing arts-in-education services to schools, seniorcenters, and other groups where the artsare used in an educational setting. TheArtsPath service region includesArmstrong, Butler, Clarion, Indiana, andJefferson counties. All activitiestake place in Cogswell Hall, withensembles meeting during the Fall andSpring semesters. The band also meets afew times during the summer for anoutdoor summer band concert.
