If you know someone who you would trust to be a caregiver, please let us know! 10AS CAREGIVERS, WE HELP SENIORS RETAIN HEALTH & INDEPENDENCE BY…1Helping seniors with tasks essential to maintaining health -which the seniors can no longer do by themselves2Encouraging them to keep engaged socially, physically and mentally to slow deteriorationCrucially, if you enjoy your time with the client and they look forward to seeing you, it gives additional motivation for the client to retain their health and independenceFor example: We help seniors with housekeeping to ensure it is a healthy environment to live in and to reduce fall-risk e.g., taking out the trash to avoid unwanted pests, organizing the room so that there is nothing to trip overFor example: Sometimes, required tasks don’t take the entire scheduled time. In those situations, it’s a perfect opportunity to engage the client:• socially (learning about their life, listening to something you both enjoy and discussing), • mentally (reading to them or doing a puzzle), or • physically (going for a walk, light stretches at home)

11CAREGIVERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST COMPLETING THE CLIENT’S CARE PLAN TASKS1We are entrusted with supporting the client’s long-term health and independence…Are we proud of the effort and professionalism that we put into the care?2If tasks are only part of our role, it should only take part of the time…After completing key tasks, what else can we do to keep the client happy & healthy?3If you find yourself doing tasks which don’t help the client meet their goals of health and independence or are beyond what we should do as caregivers…Please call your scheduler and let them know about the situation. They are your ally and, together, you can address it with the client

We all need to work together to best serve the clients.COMMUNICATE EMERGENCIESEveryone has emergencies.
