Twinkles arrived unexpectedly at theJavier household during the pandemic, as onlypullets (female chicks) had been ordered fromthe hatchery. By the time he had grown enoughto be discovered as a rooster, Twinkles hadwon the family over and was there to stay.Twinkles may look fierce but he’s a softie atheart -- unless you’re a hawk. If you’re a hawk,he’s all beak, claws, and spurs. He personallyguards all 23 hens, calls them when he locatessnacks, and sends out a warning when heperceives a threat. Roosters are known to crowday and night, but Twinkles is beloved by all, including the family’s two cats, Guera (aSiamese), and Fat Nuggets (a tortoise shell).
