Cheers to Springtime! As we chose our theme for Cheers for Charity 2023, we were reminded of a few iconic quotes, “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow” - Audrey Hepburn and “Where flowers bloom, so does hope” - Lady Bird Johnson.After the past two years of challenges and struggles, it’s exciting to think of a fresh start. As we move Cheers for Charity to an earlier date, we look forward to welcoming you and celebrating Springtime. We’re alsooptimistic for clear skies! Last year, in the rain, we raised over $1.1 million!We have accomplished so much because of your generosity. The needs of our community are great and we are thankful, with your help, to partner with some of the most dedicated and committed organizations in the Tampa Bay Area. These charities aim high and accomplish astounding results: some break the cycles of abuse or poverty through education; some end homelessness, some change the life of a child by giving them their first birthday party, convincing them that someone cares and wants to celebrate them. All of them are looking for the magic moment when a child realizes that their future does not equal their past. We are honored to play a small part in the transformation of these lives. This year, we are thrilled to introduce you to Wheelchairs 4 Kids, a local, homegrown organization founded by Madeline and Lonnie Robinson. Over ten years ago, they were shocked by the fact that so many children were using wheelchairs and mobility aids that were in such disrepair that they were held together with duct tape. Chairs were falling apart, too small or just not appropriate to meet a child’s specific needs. Despite the pace at which children grow, Medicaid and insurance only approve a new wheelchair every 5 years! Wheelchairs 4 Kids was founded to address these needs and has grown since it’s humble beginnings in the founder’s spare bedroom. They have now helped over 1,200 children with their mobility needs. Those needs are daunting. Children with disabilities “live” in their wheelchairs. Far too often, these kids are forced to use equipment that is too small, inadequate or unsafe. This can negatively impact their health in numerous ways including scoliosis, respiratory problems and pressure sores. In addition, families are faced with trying to care for their special needs children in homes that have not been modified to meet their specific circumstances. For example, Wheelchairs 4 Kids has replaced tubs with roll-in showers because parents were “showering” their teens in the back yard with hoses because they could no longer safely get them in and out of the tub. Every child deserves dignity. Their homes need ramps, widened doors and grab bars to achieve that. Wheelchairs 4 Kids also wants these children to feel like every other child and experience the joy andexcitement of activities that they might only dream of. They provide trips to attend Bucs Training Camp, zip lining, indoor sky diving and play sled hockey with the Lightning. Last year, they even took 18 kids toColorado for adaptive snow skiing! These are truly life changing events that shape the way these children view their situation. Fund a Need
Wheelchairs are expensive, as are the other needs required to facilitateopportunities that most of us takefor granted. New wheelchairs can cost as much as $10,000, and other accommodations like access ramps can cost the same. Help us give these children the gift of mobility with dignity and anexperience that might change their life.
We couldn't do it without you.As we begin planning our event each year, we reach out to individuals and organizations to help us provide the unique experience you know as Cheers for Charity. To say it takes a village would be an understatement! We are always honored and grateful for all the “Yes’s” that we are blessed with. It turns out that there is no shortage of good people willing to do great things to help children (at least not with our friends!). This year was no different. We are incredibly grateful for our amazing winemakers.

Over ten years ago, The Broadrick Family Foundation was established to help support local charitiesthat are committed to serving children and those in need in our community. Over the past six years, with your help, we have raised over $3 million through our Cheers for Charity event. Because we’ve only scratched the surface of need, we are committed to continuing to make significant contributions byhosting our seventh annual Broadrick Family Foundation fundraiser. Last year we had our best year ever. While we are incredibly grateful for your generosity, we are also thankful for our friends that donated the wines and auction items that helped us with our success. If you were there, you will remember that we sold an entire barrel of Napa’s best cabernet, an eye-popping diamond and pearl necklace, a once-in-a-lifetime dinner with 120 years of wine, the ultimate Kentucky Derby experience, a wine lover’s fantasy trip to Champagne, Burgundy and Bordeaux and (drumroll please) a private symphony experience hosted by Michael Francis and Olivier Krug! Wow! We were also the release party for Juan Mercado’s super-hot new wine project Riise as well as introducing you to superstar winemaker Julien Fayard and his amazing Napa wines. We are honored by your friendship and support.
And this is why we need your help. We were honored and grateful to be able to fund so many moreprojects this year. We have provided food, beds, wheelchairs, clothing, support and even birthday parties to the most vulnerable, the children. We know that you will be proud of what your money hasaccomplished. We continued to support primarily children’s causes focused on a safe place to live,nutrition, special needs, and education. As before, our long-term goal is to insure that every child lives in a safe, loving environment and has the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty through education.Our community needs us now more than ever! Covid, Hurricane Ian and economic uncertainty have pushed some families past the breaking point. We can read the statistics, and as staggering as they may be, the reality is worse: homelessness, hunger, health issues and a future that looks hopeless. For these families, it’s hard to think about thriving when they are so focused on surviving. This is why we do what we do.

Approximately 10,000 of those are in the Tampa Bay area. 25 , 000 children age out of foster care every year. 10% commit suicide, 5,000 will be unemployed, 6,000 will end up homeless and 3,000 will be incarcerated within 3 years.In 2021, there were 13 , 786 child abuse investigations in Hillsborough County. There were 1,185 children removed from their homes.There are 6 , 000 children in the foster system in the Tampa Bay area.It is estimated that 1 . 3 million people in the Tampa Bay area are food insecure. Every 49 minutes a child enters the foster care system in Florida.1 in 4 children have no idea where their next meal will come from. 60% of Hillsborough County students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Hillsborough County is the 7th largest school district in the United States.There are 774 , 000 children living in poverty in Florida. BUT THERE IS STILL SO MUCH MORE WE CAN DO.
