Dear Friends,Renowned nineteenth century abolitionist and minister of Plymouth Church of Brooklyn, New York, Henry Ward Beecher, urged: “We should live and labor in our time that what came to us as a seed may go to the next generation as blossom, and what came to us as blossom, may go to them as fruit. This is what we mean by progress.” Over the past year, the NACCC has lived and labored to make meaningful progress. The annual meeting and conference (AMC), a ourishing blossom, bore new fruit with our rst hybrid event. Some 156 attendees representing 69 churches gathered in Wichita, Kansas, hosted by Plymouth Congregational Church and University Congregational Church. Also present were 72 virtual attendees. We welcomed six congregations into membership. The Annual Meeting and Conference Committee is exploring untapped terrain for future conference destinations by considering convention and airline hub cities.Under the shade of the Vitality Ministry Council, a new planting, the Lay Ministry Training Program, enrolled its second cohort. The venerable Congregational Foundation for Theological Studies recognized one graduate, admitted a new fellow, and offered a Boston Seminar in Congregational History and Polity for CFTS students and pastors new to the NACCC. Ministers Convocations were held in the Midwest, New England, and on the West Coast. The Growth Ministry Council planted seeds for future collaboration around Christian education and youth ministry, compiling a list of local church leaders engaged in faith formation. The Council supported the NAPF/HOPE young adult meeting held in Wichita during the AMC. A draft schedule of webinars will help bring their dreams for productive dialogue to fruition. Through One Great Hour of Sharing offerings, the Mission and Outreach Ministry Council nurtured communities imperiled by war, natural disasters, and food insecurity, in addition to their ongoing partnerships with global missions. Staff and council members tilled the ground for the rst Cultural Exploration Ministry Trip in Cherokee, North Carolina. Accepting a seed packet from the Planning and Action Committee, the Leadership Council cultivated three objectives: increase professionalism, expand the visibility of the NACCC, and foster collaboration. This overarching body examined what unies the Association. The Racial Justice Task Team will culminate its three-year initiative at the 2023 AMC and send blossoms to the future, including resources and recommendations for formal discussion.Whether working with seeds, blossoms, or fruit, the NACCC elected leaders, staff, ministry partners, and other volunteers lived and labored in ways that bore progress for the Congregational Way. Thank you to all who contributed to this abundant harvest! FROM OUR LEADERSnaccc.org • NACCC Annual Report 2023 • 3Rev. Arthur P. Ritter NACCC Moderator Chair of the Leadership CouncilRev. 4 • NACCC Annual Report 2023 • naccc.orgDear Member Churches and Supporters:I am honored to report on the work of the Board of Directors, which manages legal and nancial matters. Staff changes kept our Personnel and Administration Committee busy. With gratitude for the dedicated service of Dan Drea, Debby Fulton, and Carrie Dahm, we wish them blessings on their next adventures. We creatively outsourced selected stafng needs: • Our fractional CFO, Cheryl Milnes, and her team updated our nancial structure to increase efciency and engage the ministry councils in budgeting procedures. • The Rev. Dr. Gerry Krupp served for six months as the part-time consulting director of programs to support churches in transition and team up with the Growth and Vitality Ministry Councils. • A professional meeting planner, Jessi Bauer-Phipps, addressed hotel, transportation, and other ne details that make the Annual Meeting and Conference successful. Shortly after the close of the scal year, we welcomed two full-time staff members: • As Executive Assistant, Andrea McCall provides intricate care for the Executive Director, CFO, Board of Directors, and Leadership Council. • Kristin Ward, Director of Development and Communications, focuses on fundraising and donor stewardship. On the rst year of the Listening Tour, our Executive Director, Rev. Dr. Ashley Cleere, visited 35 member churches, hearing their visions and concerns while enjoying fellowship. I am thankful for the collaboration, dedication, and professionalism of the Board of Directors, Ministry Councils, Congregational Foundation, and staff that enhances the Congregational Way.Dear Members, Donors and Friends of the NACCC,I write this report with great respect and appreciation for each of you! Your support and generosity has allowed the Foundation, serving alongside the Board of Directors and Leadership Council in FY2023, to further the work of the Ministry Councils, The Congregationalist, the Center for Congregational Leadership, and other worthy efforts, the Foundation distributed $320,684 to the NACCC as part of the collaborative budget process. Likewise, we are pleased to partner with the NACCC in the Congregational Investment Trust (CIT). NACCC, Foundation, and member church investments combined in the CIT strengthen the nancial position for all of us! As intended, gifts from donors were allocated to the NACCC at levels comparable to previous years. Good News! We are pleased to report that both Leadership Giving and the Annual Christmas Appeal saw an increase this year. Likewise, 36 churches increased their annual gift by 10% or more in FY 2023! We will spread this good news often as we encourage others to follow your lead! Thank you for making a difference this year! Most importantly, thank you for your generosity through your faithful contributions! A special shout-out to the NACCC staff for their outstanding expertise and dedication! Working together, all of us assure the living promise and freedom of the Congregational Way!A MESSAGE FROM OUR BOARDSJodee Lord Vice Moderator Chair of the Board of DirectorsLaura Hamby President, Board of Governors Congregational Foundation
