ROSE MAGAZINE 2023-2024In the fourteenth century, there lived a German Dominican mystic namedMeister Eckart and he often said, “If the only prayer you said in your whole lifewas ‘thank you’, that would be sufficient.”I write this message a few days before the Thanksgiving holiday. Saying “thankyou”, being grateful should not be confined only to a special day that occursevery last Thursday in November. Gratitude is an attitude, and should be a wayof life. Gratitude to Almighty God should be the beginning of every prayer forby it we recognize that all we have, all we have been given, and all ourblessings as well as our challenges that stretch our heart in faith and trust, are a gift from God. We are grateful after a historic and magnificent Centennial Celebration thispast year, and grateful for this 2024-2025 school year which began a newchapter in our proud history. We look to the future with enthusiasm, confidence,and hope as Saint Rose High School continues to grow and flourish, grateful toso many of our school community beginning with our devoted and dedicatedPrincipal, Mr. Robert Dougherty, who leads with a mission-driven vision ofproviding a quality Catholic education to our students. Held at the beautiful Spring Lake Golf Club, theCentennial Gala brought together over 400 alumni, faculty, parents, and supporters to honor the legacyof St. Rose High School and celebrate 100 years of excellence in Catholic education. The evening began with a special Centennial Mass at St. Rose Church, where the community paid tributeto alumni veterans who have exemplified the values instilled at St. Rose through their service to ourcountry. Following the Mass, attendees transitioned to the Gala for a night filled with fellowship,reflection, and joyous celebration. A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the Bob McAllan Centennial Matching Grantcampaign, a monumental initiative that helped raise over $350,000 for St. Rose High School. This incredible act of generosity reflects the enduring commitment of the Purple Rose community toensuring a bright future for our beloved school. The funds raised will directly support academicprograms, extracurricular activities, and financial aid, continuing St. Rose’s mission of providing a high-quality Catholic education. Entertainment for the Gala was provided by St. Rose alumnus Pat Roddy ‘87 and the Pat Roddy Band, whose performance set the tone for an unforgettable evening. Guests reminisced about cherished memories, celebrated the school’s accomplishments, and shared their hopes for the next century of success. Throughout the night, the recurring theme was gratitude. Msgr. Ed shared, “As we celebrate thismomentous occasion, we give thanks for the journey that began so many years ago, filled with dreams,determination, and a deep faith in God’s providence. We honor the countless individuals who havecontributed to St. Rose’s legacy—the students, parents, faculty, alumni, and benefactors whosededication has made our school a beacon of faith and learning. The Centennial Gala was a reminder of what makes St. Rose High School so special: the spirit of unity, the pursuit of excellence, and the unwavering belief in the power of Catholic education to transform lives.
