Science Speech 49 Candy Catapult Greetings Scientists My name is ________________ Today I am going to tell you how to make a candy catapult First you get some popsicle sticks some rubber bands and a bottle cap Second you wrap a rubber band around one end of a stack of 6 popsicle sticks Third you wrap a rubber band around the other end of the popsicle stick stack Fourth you put a popsicle stick in the middle of the stack so it is perpendicular Fifth you wrap a rubber band around this popsicle stick so it holds to the stack Sixth you hot glue the ends of 3 more popsicle sticks to make a square frame with the stack at the front and one popsicle stick standing up from the stack Seventh you cut another popsicle stick to be of its original size Eighth you hot glue the short stick to the frame across from the standing stick Ninth you loop another rubber band over the short stick under the frame and around the base of the standing popsicle stick Tenth you hot glue a bottle cap to the standing popsicle stick Eleventh you put a candy in the bottle cap Finally you pull back your candy catapult and let go to watch it fly

Science Speech 82 Circuit Game Greetings Scientists My name is ________________ Today I am going to tell you how to make a circuit game First you get some cardboard and 3 skewers Second you use some hot glue to stick the skewers up from the cardboard Third you get a battery holder an LED light and a buzzer Fourth you connect the circuit with wires to make sure each works properly Fifth you solder the wires to the connection points on the LED and buzzer Sixth you leave a break in the circuit Seventh you connect one side of the circuit break to a long uncoated wire Eighth you hang the uncoated wire between the 2 skewers and tape it in place Ninth you connect the other side of the circuit break to a coated wire Tenth you tape the coated wire to the last skewer Eleventh you strip the wire at the end of the skewer Twelfth you use this wire to make a circle around the uncoated wire Thirteenth you test your circuit by touching the uncoated wires together Fourteenth if your circuit is working the LED should light up and the buzzer should make a sound Finally you test how steady your hands are by moving the circle from one skewer to the other Try not to make a sound

Science Speech 74 Tensegrity Table Greetings Scientists My name is ________________ Today I am going to tell you how to make a tensegrity table First you get 8 popsicle sticks some string and some hot glue Second you use the hot glue to stick 3 popsicle sticks into a triangle shape Third you use 3 more popsicle sticks to make another triangle shape Fourth you use a drill to make holes in all the corners of the triangles Fifth you cut the last 2 popsicle sticks at a 60 degree angle Sixth you drill a hole into each of these 2 cut popsicle sticks It should be on the opposite side from the cut angle Seventh you hot glue one cut popsicle stick to the triangle shape Eighth you hot glue the other cut popsicle sticks to the triangle shape It should point up from the middle of one of the sides of the triangle Ninth you position the shape as it will be when the strings are attached Tenth you put a string through the holes of the triangle Eleventh you hot glue the string into place on one side so that it is 10 cm long Twelfth you repeat steps ten and eleven for each of the corners Thirteenth put a string through the holes of the popsicle sticks in the center Fourteenth tighten the string as much as possible and tie it Fifteen hot glue the outside strings while under tension Finally tensegrity table is finished This amazing table looks like it floats on air using only tension in the strings to keep it up

Science Speech 25 Petri Dish Lab Greetings Scientists My name is ________________ Today I am going to tell you how to set up a Petri dish lab First you boil 1 liter of filtered water in a pot for 2 minutes Second you add 23 grams of agar agar powder into the pot Third you stir all the ingredients for a minute until dissolved Fourth you prepare the Petri dishes to be quickly filled Fifth you half fill the Petri dishes with the hot agar agar mixture Sixth you immediately put the lids to the Petri dishes as soon as they are filled Seventh you put the Petri dishes in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to set Eighth you use a Q tip to test any place that might have bacteria Ninth you rub the dirty Q tip lightly across the agar in a zig zag pattern Tenth you immediately put the lids back on the Petri dishes Eleventh you label the Petri dishes with your name and where you tested Twelfth you put the Petri dishes in a warm humid place Thirteenth you check your Petri dish to see what has grown Finally you compare the Petri dishes to see which place has the most bacteria

Science Speech 47 Wind Turbine Greetings Scientists My name is ________________ Today I am going to tell you how to make a wind turbine First you a 5 volt DC hobby motor Second you 2 popsicle sticks into the shape of an X Third you cut off the bottom of a small paper cup Fourth you cut the small paper cup into 4 equal pieces Fifth you glue each paper cup piece onto each leg of the popsicle X to make a fan Sixth you make sure that each piece goes in the same direction Seventh you drill a small hole in the center of the X to attach the hobby motor Eighth you glue 2 popsicle sticks to opposite sides of a large paper cup base Ninth you glue the hobby motor to the popsicle sticks attached to the base Tenth you make sure that the fan can freely turn without touching the base Eleventh you connect the metal leads of an LED to the terminals on the hobby motor Twelfth you test that the LED is connected properly by turning the fan Thirteenth if the LED is connected properly the LED will glow Fourteenth you may need to reverse the LED connections if it does not glow Fifteen you put your wind turbine into the wind so that the fan turns Finally you watch your wind turbine create electricity and light up your LED Afterwards you can try to make your wind turbine better by changing the size or shape of the fan

Science Speech 39 Water Rockets Greetings Scientists My name is _______________ Today I am going to tell you how to make a water rocket First you get a soda bottle Second you put 300ml of water into the soda bottle and mark the level as 300ml Third you put another 300ml of water into the bottle and mark the level as 600ml Fourth you put another 300ml of water into the bottle and mark the level as 900ml Fifth you cut some foam paper into the shape of fins Sixth you use some hot glue to attach the fins to the soda bottle Be sure not to cover the marks showing the water levels Seventh you use some markers to decorate your soda bottle Eighth you go outside to a clear area Ninth you fill your rocket to 900ml and put it onto the water rocket launcher Tenth you add around 40 psi of air pressure to the rocket using a bike pump Finally you pull the string on the launcher and watch your rocket fly Afterwards you can repeat your experiment using the other marked water levels

Science Speech 78 Jacob s Ladder Greetings Scientists My name is ________________ Today I am going to tell you how to make Jacob s Ladder First you get some origami paper ribbon double sided tape and cardboard Second you fold opposite sides of a piece of origami paper to meet in the middle Third you fold the remaining sides in to meet at the middle making a square Fourth you cut a square of cardboard to fit inside the origami square Fifth you use some double sided tape to stick the cardboard to the paper Sixth you use some more double sided tape to stick the origami paper closed Seventh you do this until you have 12 squares of different colors Eighth you choose 1 square to be the bottom of the Jacob s ladder Ninth you get three pieces of ribbon about 12 squares long Tenth you put 2 pieces of double sided tape onto the back of the bottom square Eleventh you stick the end of the ribbons to the bottom square The 2 ribbons on the side go one direction and the middle one goes the opposite way Twelfth you stick another square on top to close the first step of the ladder Thirteenth you cross the ribbons over the top of the first step of the ladder Fourteenth you place the next square on top of the first step and ribbons Fifteenth you put some double sided tape on the back of the square Sixteenth you cross the ribbons over the square and stick them to the tape Seventeenth you place the next square on top and finish the 2nd step of the ladder Eighteenth you finish each step of the ladder the same way Nineteenth on the last step you cut the ribbons to fit inside Finally you hold the top square and tilt it forward to watch Jacob s Ladder go
