JOINING THE TEAM VISITING ARTIST T T he Fargo Moorhead LGBT Film Festival is excited to welcome filmmaker and festival manager Shawn Cotter to the team as Director of Programming The position is new to the festival and was created to extend the festival s reach and engagement with Queer filmmakers Cotter has been part of the film festival experience for over two decades as both an experimental filmmaker and as part of a festival team He graduated in 1993 from the University of Massachusetts with a BA in Comparative Literature Film Studies and was one of the first graduates to receive a certificate in Film Studies from the university s Amherst campus It was during his freshman year that he picked up a Super 8 mm camera at the urging of a trusted professor and his love of filmmaking took off His belief that film festivals are platforms to celebrate underrepresented stories and communities has led him to lend his operational and programming skillset to colleague festivals such as Boston Women s Film Festival Melanin Pride FF Global Tourism FF NGIAFF AFI and the Shenandoah Film Collaborative He has also worked in the retail sector for 30 years as a manager apparel and accessories buyer and merchandiser Shawn currently lives in Malden MA and is a proud cat dad He counts among his favorite filmmakers Doris Wishman Maya Deren Stan Brakhage R W Fassbinder Douglas Sirk Kenneth Anger Wong Kar Wai Jess Franco and Dario Argento His favorite film is IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE by Wong Kar Wai Shawn joined the merry band of Queer propagandists and storytellers at Wicked Queer Boston s LGBTQ Film Festival in 2011 where he has held many roles and worn lots of hats He has served as Operations Manager for his first six years and helped bring the festival s operations into a digital age allowing programming opportunities to expand He took on the role of Director of Programming for four years before taking over the Executive Directorship in 2018 SHAWN COTTER FMLGBTFF DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMMING SHAWN HUMAN FAMILY ORG 4 he Fargo Moorhead LGBT Film Festival welcomes visiting artist Kevin R Tengesdal as the 2022 poster designer Kevin is a professional graphic designer with twenty five years of creative history in print newspaper advertising and nonprofit industries He holds a bachelor s degree in Biblical Languages and Biblical Studies from Columbia International University and studied abroad in Jerusalem for a year Kevin works with the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library as their Community Relations Coordinator producing social media and promotional design work He is also obtaining his master s degree in Social Work through the University of North Dakota He founded the Facebook page Prairie Rainbow as a ministry of defense and encouragement for gay Christians and their allies across North Dakota He also formed a correlating Facebook discussion group ND Gay Christians and Allies Kevin has testified before legislative committees advocating for bills calling for an end to discrimination against LGBT residents of North Dakota He has designed hundreds of social statement art pieces for social media to encourage and challenge others to know they are not alone View more of Kevin s work at branderchatfield com creative character graphic designer KEVIN R TENGESDAL 2022 FESTIVAL POSTER DESIGNER SHAWN HUMAN FAMILY ORG 5
