Helping Hands for the Holidays was created in 2008 to provide assistance to the St. Charles Community. The 15th Annual Helping Hands for the Holidays saw a 55% increase in attendance from 2021, welcoming 870 guests and getting back up to pre-COVID numbers. The St. Charles Convention Center partnered with CAPS of St. Charles County, Dollar General, Sam’s Club, and 15 exhibitors to put on this year’s event. The Helping Hands Committee used the 15th Annual Helping Hands to go back to why the St. Charles Convention Center started Helping Hands. The committe wanted to focus on providing community members in need with a warm coat and other necesseties during the holiday season. With that, the committee got donation boxes set up at spots throuhout St. Charles, including City Hall, the Police Station, and Fire Station #4. We also had 15 exhibitors reach out to be part of the event to offer information and services on things like Medicare, mental health resources, affordable home ownership, and more. CAPS students and other volunteers helped to count and sort donations, as well as work the event by running the coat and personal care item giveaways, serving food, taking pictures with Santa, helping check-in, and more. The generosity of the St. Charles community allowed the St. Charles Convention Center to put on a fun-lled event for their fellow community members.
