PAGE 2 A NOTE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR This past summer our staff explored the why behind what we do at Team Up Mentoring While we are of course led by our mission to serve children and families affected by trauma we wanted to dig deep into the core principles that guide each interaction with children and caregivers guide how we train mentors how we work together as staff and how we make critical decisions Over the course of three months our staff considered the most important aspects of what Team Up believes in and came up with these three words Curiosity Kindness Bravery Once defined it has been easy to spot these values in action this past year We saw curiosity come to life every time we heard a mentor ask a child How are you feeling as part of a nightly feelings check in When asked in earnest and listened to curious questions like these foster the kind of transformative relationships Team Up is about We witnessed kindness as kids went out of their way to include new students often joining our program from foster care backgrounds Asking them questions ensuring they said their names correctly saving them a seat and welcoming them into the fold When we encounter kindness we feel safe and trust those around us How important is that for kids who have been affected by trauma And we even caught bravery on camera as a Team Up Alumni and Team Up mom of four vulnerably shared her story on camera Not only was she brave for telling her story to HBO producers her story of adversity and resilience echoed the bravery of every child and family that walks through the doors at Team Up As I reflect on the past year it s been a pleasure witnessing the big and little moments of curiosity kindness and bravery here at Team Up Thank you to our families mentors donors volunteers partners and staff whom each had a hand in making these moments happen Blessings Anna Blount Founder and CEO TEAM UP MENTORING
