JANUARY 2021 MILESTONES 10 YEARS CARTONEROS Y SUS CHICOS We ve reached many milestones in the last 10 years Today we care for 165 schoolchildren Setting up a professional and committed team to respond to the needs of the children as well as their parents and the region Building our own school Alliance with social organisations enterprises and universities Creation of a network of canteens and picnic areas during the COVID 19 pandemic supplying food to over 4 000 families

FEBRUARY 2021 MEETING WITH OUR CHILDREN S STATE SCHOOLS We work closely with all our children s state schools to best meet the children s needs For this purpose we regularly organise meetings with school directors and consulting teams to develop sound educational strategies for each and every child

MARCH 2021 YOUTH LEADER PROGRAMME The Youth Leader J venes L deres Programme is launched in accordance with all health organisation restrictions This programme is designed to help boys and girls between the ages of 15 and 18 to plan their lives and obtain qualifications for their future careers

APRIL 2021 COMPUTER ROOM In view of the restrictions resulting from the COVID 19 pandemic and with the goal of continuing to assist in the education for 100 of the children we have set up a room with computers and internet access This enables Cartoneros children with no internet access at home a way to communicate with their teachers

MAY 2021 READING HOURS AND ART WORKSHOPS At the children s request after school group reading hours and art workshops are held due to the COVID 19 pandemic these are currently being held online These workshops were made possible through a group of volunteers who meet weekly Our children take part in this programme with a lot of joy and enthusiasm

JUNE 2021 LITERACY PROGRAMME Sadly the schools remain closed Children from poor families do not own computers and often there is only one family member with a mobile telephone and internet access often together with one or more neighbours This makes their education difficult During the pandemic homework is sent via WhatsApp The children do not understand the assignments Contact with their teachers is nearly impossible and the parents cannot help their children with their homework As part of the virtual literacy programme we distribute electronic devices smartphones and tablets to assist more than 30 boys and girls in learning to read and write during the pandemic

JULY 2021 FRIENDSHIP DAY In August the staff prepared a special party to celebrate Friendship Day with the children They organised games prepared delicious foods and a wonderful day was enjoyed by all

AUGUST 2021 FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN In August we launched our fundraising campaign for the expansion of our literacy programme This included interviews in diverse media including television and radio We thus increased awareness of our Fundaci n Cartoneros y sus Chicos A survey warns that the number of people visiting soup kitchens or asking for daily help has increased by 40 advisers also speak of new benefit recipients six in ten facilities have closed due to the pandemic

SEPTEMBER 2021 CHARITY GALA IN ZURICH On 1 September the day had finally arrived to celebrate our 10 year anniversary of Cartoneros y sus Chicos in Zurich At our Charity Gala in Zurich we were delighted to experience a wonderful journey to Buenos Aires with entertainment provided by gauchos tango dancers artists and internationally known singers It was an evening full of surprises

SEPTEMBER 2021 SPONSORSHIPS Ten sponsorships were created on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Cartoneros y sus Chicos Like all children our Cartoneros kids have dreams Our 10th anniversary helped to pave a new way for supporting the Cartoneros and their children By being a sponsor to one of our Cartoneros kids and an annual contribution of CHF 500 you ll help these children come closer to their dreams

OCTOBER 2021 EXPANSION OF ESCUELITA To give more children a chance for a good education we have plans to enlarge our school and add a second floor to the building This will allow us to accommodate 350 children in the future At the gala event in Zurich an Argentinian friend declared his willingness to help us with the expansion work on our Escuelita In addition the Brazilian architect Romeu Patriani agreed to draw up the plans and oversee its construction He had overseen the first stage of the building s creation We extend our warm thanks to him for his great com mitment Romeu Patriani Provisional two storey design

NOVEMBER 2021 VISIT TO ESCUELITA Argentina reopened its borders in November and after an absence of two long years Renata Jacobs was finally able to travel to Buenos Aires to visit the children at our school The safety of the children and teachers takes top priority Covid protection measures like daily hand sanitising before entering the school building and mask wearing are being strictly followed by all children and teachers Despite the difficulties of the pandemic the children have developed well They have become much more open and trusting This is seen especially during sponsor visits The children welcomed them took them by the hand spoke of many things and asked many questions It was a moving experience for all of us The health of the children is extremely important Unfortunately many of them have problems with their eyesight and so in November all the children were examined by ophthalmologists for visual impairments In addition the renowned Argentinian nutritional specialist Dr Alberto Cormillot has created a special nutritional programme for our children Because if the children s stomachs are empty i e they do not have enough to eat this will impair their physical and mental development

NOVEMBER 2021 BOARD MEETING At the Cartoneros y sus Chicos board meeting in November it was resolved that another programme is to be created alongside J venes L deres a programme which helps young people find the right path for their future We must support the children in their search for vocations that are right for them and in starting their working lives successfully including possible subsequent support through microcredits One of Renata Jacobs greatest dreams is that some of the children would be able to complete university studies Pablo Kavulakian President Herv Pollet Director Renata Jacobs Founder Vice President Lucas Hernandez Director Ma Soledad Senosiain Dr Matias Barreiro Director Director Alejandra Solla Treasurer Silvana Ripoll Director

NOVEMBER 2021 GRAND PRIX 13 NOVEMBER On 13 November the Grand Prix Cartoneros y sus Chicos organised by foundation president Pablo Kavulakian was held at the race track in San Isidro 36 beautiful classic cars took part in speed and skilled manoeuvring contests and prizes were awarded to the best drivers and the most elegant vehicles A special surprise was a performance by three girls from our Cartoneros who delighted the audience with hits performed at a professional level The funds raised at the event will be used exclusively to implement the new nutritional plan and develop the literacy programme While staying in Buenos Aires Renata Jacobs met with several Argentinian entrepreneurs in order to raise awareness for our Cartoneros y sus Chicos foundation and find new sponsors

DECEMBER 2021 HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND A HEALTHY 2022 Tutoring for academically weaker children will continue over the Argentinian Christmas holidays All our teachers put their heart and soul into their work for our foundation and for our children Their relationships with the students are caring and supportive To our great delight a friend from the Uruguayan Embassy donated 100 pan dulces and Christmas trees for our children I d like to take this opportunity to once again offer my thanks to all our loyal Cartoneros friends for their wonderful and continued support
