FROM OUR LEADERSHIP Dear Friends of the Association and the Congregational Way A powerful description of the early church is found in Acts 2 44 47 In that passage the early Christian community was described as giving to each one as there was a need as seeking God s will together as praying together and as working together for the common good That serves as an apt description of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches NACCC Our member churches hold the work and ministry of the NACCC in trust so that our staff can provide assistance to each member church as there is a need Always our work is done with the intent to provide what is most needed in the life of any particular church at any time This is especially true now as we all the NACCC and our member churches and their communities are facing unique challenges because of the COVID 19 pandemic which makes the mutual support for one another more needed We want to share some of the accomplishments of the past year The work identified in the 2019 Annual Report is ongoing For example the Annual Meeting Accessibility Task Team produced a list of recommendations to help make the Annual Meeting and Conference more affordable with many of them being implemented now The Website Task Team continues to make progress and is currently reviewing quotes from three design companies for the future website project The Center for Congregational Leadership CCL Task Team is finalizing a list of recommendations for the work of the CCL including creating a standing committee to help produce resources to share with our member churches Recommendations made by The Congregationalist task team were implemented which helped to reduce the magazine s annual deficit Last July the NACCC began a partnership with the Center for Parish Development CPD to launch a pilot program for church renewal for our congregations with churches able to use the materials produced by and access coaching from the CPD Two cohorts of two churches each have been formed to engage in this process Additionally other churches are using materials from the CPD in congregational Bible studies With the ongoing issues relating to sexual abuse and sexual harassment including religious groups with a congregational type polity a Task Team has been formed to update the response of the NACCC with a set of guidelines to be offered to our churches It is our privilege to join with you as we work together to support one another It is good to come together to serve God and to advance the Congregational Way Jim Waechter NACCC Moderator Rev Dr Michael Chittum NACCC and Congregational Foundation Executive Director NACCC Annual Report 2019 www naccc org 3
