From the President of the Board of Trustees 2020 was the start of my term as President of the Union League Boys Girls Clubs Board of Trustees It goes without saying that 2020 was an unprecedented year When I was handed the gavel virtually of course back in June the pandemic and numerous states of events had already rocked our nation and the world I knew we had a difficult road that still lay ahead of us The shift and changes to our overall sense of normalcy were certainly astonishing However it was our community s resilience that left the largest impression on me from the year We all banded together during this critical time as a Union League Boys Girls Clubs Community with the resolve to overcome the many hurdles thrown our way throughout the year This was made possible by the dedication and strength of remarkable community members our Club youth families staff partners and you Your support sends a clear message to the fellow members of our community That message is that they are not alone Throughout the uncertainty and relentless challenges you stood by their sides Because of you our community members were able to lean on one another and we all became stronger for it I send a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you who keep our Community wonderful united and resilient We know that 2021 will have its own obstacles but 2020 clearly demonstrated that together we are able to ensure that our youth have bright futures ahead Cynthia Doloughty PRESIDENT OF THE UNION LEAGUE BOYS GIRLS CLUBS BOARD 2

ENGLEWOOD MADE POSSIBLE Englewood Has Consistently Made News Headlines for Having the Highest Hardship Index in Chicago The Union League Boys Girls Clubs Englewood Initiative was developed in 2015 in response to the high rate of violent crimes gangs socioeconomic disinvestment and poverty impacting families and neighborhood schools At the start of the pandemic when school moved to a virtual platform our dedicated Englewood staff reached out to our community and learned that that 80 of families were without technology or internet access ULBGC swiftly distributed internet enabled technology to youth so they could continue their school work and in the fall opened three satellite locations to ensure youth had a safe place to learn access to meals and support from mentors The COVID 19 pandemic has exposed just how significant the disparities in our community truly are Help build the next generation of leaders in Chicago by supporting our Englewood campaign Your support is invaluable To join our Englewood campaign contact Kim Coady Hawkins at ka chawkins ulbgc org or 312 583 9924 This was a lifesaver I had to work but wasn t able to because I had to sit with my kids for school This programming allowed me to work and my kids to be successful We are so grateful Englewood Parent 8

I N S P I R AT I O N A L H E R O E S unionleague_bgc 12 Our Inspirational Heroes At the start of 2020 no one anticipated we would still be living under CDC guidelines for the remainder of the year We planned for a disruptive few weeks but nothing more As our city shut down we knew we would have to carry on for more than 15 000 Chicago youth The future leaders of the next generation were counting on us and we would not disappoint them During some of the most challenging times there were countless supporters who came to our aid with program sustainability but there were two organizations who went above and beyond to lift us up The Greater Chicago Food Depository and BMO Harris Bank are two of our 2020 Inspirational Heroes Our third Inspirational Hero is a Club staff member Juan Enriquez who is the first of the staff members to receive this annual award for his exemplary service and commitment to our Club members Juan Enriquez Juan Enriquez or Coach Juan as most of our members know him is a staff member in the athletic department at the Barreto Club Now because of COVID 19 and its restrictions Juan is doing another type of coaching helping Club members with homework and e learning skills Juan is always going the extra mile to ensure our youth have what they need to succeed This is why we honored him as our first Annual Staff Inspirational Hero We will continue this tradition at each Gala by honoring a different staff member from across Union League Boys Girls Clubs
