Creating positive futures for adults with learning disabilities
A message from Hannah Quiz Corner It’s that time of the year again, and we have had several fantastic Christmas events already! We hosted Santa in his Grotto once again, which was very popular with families, as was our successful Christmas Market, that had doubled in size since 2018. Thank you to so many of you for coming along. We all enjoyed our Day Service Customer Christmas Disco at Worthing Rugby Club, with karaoke and group dances all evening. We are now looking forward to Carols in the Stables and our end of year Christmas meal on 23rd December, our final day before the Christmas break. Our Day Service reopens on Thursday 2nd January. The café is beginning to take shape, now boasting a roof and the beginnings of four walls. The disabled access ramp has been built, and we are now finalising the designs of what will become the soft play area and Ferring Country Stores! 1. How many reindeer drive Santa Claus’ sleigh? 2. Stollen is the traditional fruit cake of which country? 3. What type of tree does the partridge sit in, according to the well-known Christmas song? 4. What are two other commonly used names for Father Christmas? Answers can be found on the back page. We are taking part in the ‘Our Town’ movement. ‘Our Town’, a West Sussex County Council initiative described as an “innovative project supporting adults with learning disabilities” was originally established in Horsham, following similar schemes founded elsewhere in the UK. The project offers support to adults with learning disabilities who may find themselves in an uncomfortable or distressing situation. Each person taking part is issued with a membership card with their name, phone number and emergency contact details, which the shop or business can use to assist the person. When out and about, should the member be in need of assistance, they will be able to go into any shop or business displaying an ‘Our Town’ window sticker. Ferring Country Centre displays the sticker in reception and offers help to any vulnerable adults that may need assistance in any way.
