WE INSPIRE EMPOWER YOUTH WHO WE ARE Boys Girls Clubs of Elkhart County has been a force for good in the lives of youth for over half a century With over 60 years of experience in youth development and a team of skilled caring professionals we see potential in every child and teen that walks through our doors We are here to elevate the youth of our community and let them know that they are capable worthy and important We show up every day to prove to the world and every individual child that they have what it takes to reach a great future WHAT WE DO We inspire and empower all young people especially those who need us most to reach their full potential as productive caring responsible citizens We build deeply powerful relationships with the youth we serve and open avenues of opportunity for young people across our community We offer safe places where young people can learn grow and succeed We provide a quality Club Experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who enters our doors with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future equipped with the skills needed to have a successful life and demonstrating good character and citizenship

Dear Friends As I reflect on the successes and accomplishments of 2018 I am once again reminded of how blessed we are There is no way we could continue to help so many young people without the dedication commitment and amazing contributions of our donors volunteers and partners On behalf of our team board and every child Boys Girls Clubs of Elkhart County has helped this year we offer you our heartfelt thanks Together we are making a positive difference in Elkhart County and as we look ahead we plan to do even more This year we announced a partnership with Ivy Tech Community College to support educational opportunities and job skills training for Boys Girls Club members and introduced new programming focused on helping youth choose a path to follow after high school Our Employment Training Certification ETC Program prepares youth for success in their first jobs and helps them develop a plan to achieve their chosen careers Ivy Tech provides the tools to put those plans into action through career sessions at our Clubs and information on affordable accessible education options Club members and their families benefited this year from sessions providing information about various grants financial aid options and scholarships Being a Club Kid means more than just caring about yourself It also means you are dedicated to learning how to be a good friend and citizen Andres Club Member 2018 19 Goshen Youth of the Year 2018 was the first full year that the Brian and Jeannelle Brady Center our Boys Girls Club facility in Elkhart was open Club members who completed the Indiana Kids academic success program at the Club over the school year showed a 68 growth in reading and a 66 growth in math We broke ground on a new Boys Girls Club facility in Nappanee this year Once completed the Shea Leavitt Families Clubhouse will allow us to serve more children expand programs and services and maximize the impact of Boys Girls Clubs throughout Elkhart County We are grateful for the outpouring of support shown by those in Nappanee and the surrounding communities Thank you for your generosity and commitment to inspiring and empowering over 5 000 grateful Club members Sincerely Kevin Deary President CEO Now that I realize the power I have as a leader I try to use that to make a positive impact on my community Zayris Club Member and 2018 19 Elkhart Youth of the Year

YOUTH of the YEAR OUR 2018 19 YOUTH OF THE YEAR WINNERS The Youth of the Year program celebrates teens whose Club experience has empowered them to find their voice and achieve success These individuals exemplify the Boys Girls Club mission and are proof of the impact Clubs make in transforming and saving kids lives Each candidate represented their Club at the countywide Youth of the Year competition where they competed for a spot at the Indiana State contest As part of their candidacy each candidate delivers a speech participates in a panel interview and shares a series of essays about their Club experience Read on to see what our 2018 19 Youth of the Year winners have to say about their Club experience in their own words ANDRES 2018 19 Goshen BGCEC Youth of the Year It is not the building or the furniture that I go to the Boys Girls Club for it is the people and the community The Club has introduced me to some amazing people that make the Club the life changing place it is Those were the people that taught me the most important lessons and who helped me build my leadership skills find my voice and empowered me to turn my ideas into actions As I work with younger kids I see my own club experience living in them Being a Club Kid means more than just caring about yourself It also means you are dedicated to learning how to be a good friend and citizen BROOKE 2018 19 Nappanee Youth of the Year The Club is a place where I can hang out with my friends where I can be myself and a place where I can talk to somebody if and when I need to When I have struggled with depression and personal issues staff members at the Club helped me get through it by talking with me and listening There are always staff at the Club to help me and give me advice when things are not going well at home and they have been there for me when I felt like there was nobody I could talk to Along with helping me get through tough times the staff s advice and leadership has inspired me to try and do the same for others The Boys Girls Club is truly a second home to me HALEY 2018 19 Middlebury Youth of the Year The Club has impacted my life in ways I did not think imaginable One of the most impactful experiences that I have had at the Club was while attending a field trip to colleges in Indiana Since this visit I have been passionate about furthering my education after high school I plan to pursue a degree to help me achieve my goal of becoming a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner I hope that I will one day be able to take care of the healthy babies and cure the unhealthy ones as well As I am transitioning through this time in my life from high school to college I am grateful for the opportunities the Club introduced to me ZAYRIS 2018 19 Elkhart Youth of the Year Becoming a member at the Boys Girls Club was honestly one of the best choices I have made in my whole life At first I didn t really do anything within the Club It took almost the whole year before I started to emerge from my bubble and the Boys Girls Club really started to make an impact on me Two staff members in particular saw something in me that I did not even know existed They saw a leader in me Without my knowledge they kind of tricked me into becoming a leader which allowed me to show them the qualities of a leader that I possess Now that I realize the power I have as a leader I try to use that to make a positive impact on my community
