Pathology allows me to explore the microscopic world of diseases and to diagnose and guide treatment decisions based on evidence. Pathology also challenges me to collaborate and communicate with other professionals and to pursue excellence and innovation in my practice. Pathology is the most exciting and fulfilling adventure of my medical journey.Name: Vikas Nishadham, MDSchool: Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, India, 2019Committed to Pathology: YesWhy Pathology: As a visual learner who can see the pathophysiology of diseases and find clues from grossing to microscopy, I enjoy pathology. I also like the behind-the-scenes nature of pathology and the fact that it is the foundation of our healthcare system. Pathology is a perfect fit for my personality and objectives, as I enjoy problem-solving and desire quick results. I enjoy mentoring students and instructing other physicians on my diagnosis, and I find it extremely satisfying that my diagnosis is used to treat patients and alleviate their pain.Name: Fayhaa Doja, M3School: Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, 2025Committed to Pathology: Undecided

This information typically yielded a diagnosis that could then lead to better treatment and patient outcomes. At last, after seeing the connection between what was under the microscope and patient presentations, I found my path being directed toward pathology as my future career. During my internship years, I noticed that every single specialty relied on pathologic diagnosis, not only for reaching an accurate diagnosis but for the best choice of treatment.Name: Abdel Rahman Qabaja , MDSchool: Al Maarefa University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 2020Committed to Pathology: YesWhy Pathology: I have found myself a really good match as it suits me as a person and I am also really interested in the research area in addition to that, I like to be challenged and use problem solving skills.Name: Sarah Haider, M4School: Stritch School of Medicine, 2024 Committed to Pathology: NoName: Gloria Gonzalez, M3School: Stritch School of Medicine, 2025Committed to Pathology: No

I am particularly interested in forensic pathology. That is because I believe we are all stories and it is a beautiful and meaningful job to discover and write the final chapter of our patients.Name: Qais Al-Bakri, MDSchool: The University of Jordan - School of Medicine, Amman – Jordan, 2024Committed to Pathology: YesWhy Pathology: My interest was piqued in my first years taking histology classes and anatomy labs. Something about drawing the lines connecting the things I saw on a macroscopic level to the microscopic level just felt so interesting to me. I was really excited doing my first gross, following it the next day and seeing it on the slide in front of me with the resident explaining everything we were seeing there. I also tend to let my imagination wander a lot so looking at a 2D slide and constructing a 3D image in my head on how this is happening is also fun. Other than that, I really like the work-life balance of the job and its deep involvement with research, which I’ve also had an interest in for a while. I've also had some wonderful teachers who've made me interested in academia, but that's a long-term goal.Name: Zach Briggs, MDSchool: University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, 2021Committed to Pathology: YesWhy Pathology: For me, the most rewarding aspect of medicine is being able to make a diagnosis, and this is the central focus of pathology. I enjoy the puzzle-solving nature of this specialty, as well as the ability to directly visualize a patient's disease process under the microscope. I find pathology to be incredibly mentally stimulating and I like the idea of acting in a consultant role to help clinicians treat their patients.Name: Brock Wiley, M4School: Kansas City University; Kansas City, MOCommitted to Pathology: Undecided
