Carbohydrates 

What are Carbohydrates? -Carbs are the main source of energy for the body

How do they help the body? -Carbs are help to control metabolism 

Carbohydrates can hurt the body if you have too much. -When you have too many carbs in your diet you will reach you limit on glycogen which is a product from carbs and then glycogen becomes fat

How much carbs should we eat? -About 55-60% of our diet should be carbs

Fun Fact- A gram of carbohydrates has about 4 calories

Fats

What are fats? -Fats are The most concentrated form of energy in the foods we eat

How do fats help the body? -Depending on the fat, fats can reduce bad cholesterol in the blood and act as carries for some vitamins

How can eating too much Fat hurt the body? -Eating too much fat can result in high cholesterol 

How much fat should i eat? - no more than 30% and less than 10% of that should be from saturated fats

Protein 

What is Protein? -Protein is composed acid that we need to survive 

How does protein help the body? -Protein is the main building  material in the body for blood, skin, hair, nails, organs and muscles.

How Can protein hurt the body? -If you have a excess of protein it will be converted into fat.

How much of our diet should be protein? -10-15% of or diet should be protein



Fun Fact  -Protein is a long chain-like molecule that is made up of small units known as amino acids, joined together by peptide bonds.

Vitamins

What are vitamins? -Vitamins are things the body needs for metabolic reactions.

How do vitamins help the body? -Vitamins help in the development of body structures.

How can vitamins hurt the body? -If you have too much soluble vitamins you could lead to high levels of toxicity. 

How much of our diet should be vitamins? -As many as needed to fill the gaps in your diet

What are minerals? -They are in the environment and get absorbed in the food chain by plants and animals

How do minerals help the body? -Metabolism, biological reactions, water balance and bone development 

How can minerals hurt the body? -Way too much can be toxic

What is water? -A liquid in the body and all around

How does it hurt the body? -It gives structure and form to the body and used to maintain body temperature

How can water hurt the body? -it can be lethal in overdoses which are extremely rare

How much water should we drink? -Half your body weight in ounces
