CO DIRECTOR S CORNER I was recently invited to be the alumni speaker at the Promising Practices Conference at Rhode Island College They asked me to share my experiences as a person of color in public education with future educators I suspected that my experience had been quite unique and this opportunity to present helped to confirm my suspicions I got to compare my story with other RIC alumni and I m so glad to be part of a school community that is open accepting rigorous diverse and safe The demographic data from the state shows that we are one of the most diverse high schools in the state The results from our SurveyWorks survey have shown that we have consistently been the safest high school in the state for the past 18 years Recent survey data has also proven that our students are the happiest they feel challenged in their work without being stressed out and they feel ready to tackle college or a career when they leave the Met From a national level of recognition President Obama used the Met as an example of what all schools in the United States should be striving for and we ve been listed as one of the most innovative schools in the world by a major publication I m so proud of the work that we have done at the Met over the past 22 years and I am proud to be part of a school that values every individual and takes their needs into consideration when designing the learning environment Nancy 2017 2018 Open Houses have started We ve had two very full open houses so far this season We open our doors to incoming families starting in October and continue monthly until our application deadline on February 13 For more information about open house see page 5 or visit TheMetHighSchool org admissions
