CHRISTIANS ALLIANCE ORGANIZATION HISTORY 2000 The founder of Christians Alliance began his Christian philanthropic efforts in 2000 expanding his own adoptive experience into an even greater opportunity to serve God In 2000 Christians Alliance s name was International Orphans Foundation IOF At this point in time it focused on international orphan relief work From 2000 to 2007 many orphans from Russia and Ukraine were adopted into permanent loving families here in the United States 2008 IOF launched an ambitious plan to plant local churches and Children s Home in India Each IOF Children s Home welcomed 10 12 impoverished orphan children into a loving Christian family environment The homes were led by native missionaries who best understood the needs of the community These Home Parents nurtured and cherished the children under their care In April of 2008 IOF s first Children s Home was opened in Barwani India By the spring of 2009 eleven more Children s Homes had been established throughout the country In 2010 IOF opened its India Headquarters in New Delhi 2014 In 2014 IOF shifted its focus from international humanitarian work to domestic evangelism and social injustice initiatives It renamed itself Christians Alliance Currently Christians Alliance is focused on helping churches start mentoring programs for women in crisis pregnancy 1
PRESENTATION DETAILED by section Please use the presentation slides available on christiansalliance org Download them to a USB drive thumb drive and give to church audiovisual team section 1 Slide 1 NAME AND ORGANIZATION HISTORY goal What you want to do here is break the ice with the congregation by explaining the origins of the foundation and what it used to do in the past Remember the work that was done before helping widows and orphans is still being carried out in the mentoring program Single mothers who are in crisis pregnancy are society s modern day widows and those children who are sadly aborted are the ultimate example of orphans Orphans after all are unwanted talking points The foundation was called International Orphans Foundation IOF Started in 2000 Brought orphans over to host families from Russia and Ukraine In 2014 focus of foundation shifted to USA Changed organization name to Christians Alliance God birthed a new vision in founder Working with modern day widows and orphans women in crisis pregnancy and their unborn children section 2 Slide 2 THE MISSION IS TO CONNECT WOMEN IN CRISIS PREGNANCY WITH MENTORS goal Be clear and describe in one sentence what the program is finding and training spiritually mature Christian women to be mentors to women in crisis pregnancy This is very important as many in the congregation will want to understand right in the beginning what our organization does If we remain vague about what the program is for too long people will lose interest 2
talking points This is a program in your church that focuses on 1 1 mentoring One spiritually mature Christian woman from the church being a loving friend to a woman in crisis pregnancy section 3 Slide 3 WHY DO WE HELP WOMEN IN CRISIS PREGNANCY goal In this section you are explaining why our organization wants to help women in crisis pregnancy You want to show the congregation that we do this work because God has placed a special love for these women in our hearts talking points Our organization is starting mentoring programs because we have a special love in our hearts for women in crisis pregnancy Love is critical to this work Ministry work cannot happen unless love motivates it This makes sense as the whole of the Christian life rests on a foundation of love The word of God commands us to love Matthew 22 36 40 36 Teacher which is the greatest commandment in the Law 37 Jesus replied Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind 38 This is the first and greatest commandment 39 And the second is like it Love your neighbor as yourself 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments 3
talking points continued The 1 desire of God is that we love Him with all that we are This love for God should also extend to people This love however that God wants us to show our neighbor is different than human love it is a supernatural and selfless love that is offered freely If we live our lives and do not show this love to our neighbors we will not make an impact in this world In fact even if you live a life that religion would say is good God s Word says it is being wasted if there is no love 1 Corinthians 13 1 3 NIV 13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels but do not have love I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge and if I have a faith that can move mountains but do not have love I am nothing 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast but do not have love I gain nothing God wants you to live your life by loving selflessly loving others This is the best life that you could live This type of love is alive in the hearts of God s people Alive in the hearts of all the mentors and pastors in the program If you feel this love in your heart for women in crisis pregnancy know that you can get involved At the end of my talk I will let you know how section 4 Slide 4 PROFILE OF A WOMAN IN CRISIS PREGNANCY goal What you want to do in this portion of the presentation is paint an accurate picture of what it is like for a woman in crisis pregnancy The point of this is to stir up compassion in the hearts of those listening 4
talking points There are many emotions being experienced by a woman in crisis pregnancy Fear anger shame Many women in this situation have no support from family No relationship with siblings parents or the father of the baby All they can see in front of them is the crisis If there are stable relationships they are very likely negative ones that are pressuring her to have an abortion In other words for this woman there is no safety net of support section 5 Slides 5 10 EVERYONE CAN GET INVOLVED goal When talking in this section your goal should be to explain to the church how everyone even those who can t be a mentor like men can be involved talking points The organization is here to find and train women to be mentors However for those who can t be mentors there are a number of ways they can get involved Slide 5 o Everyone including men can refer women to their church s mentoring program Slide 5 o Food Drive The food drive is a pre packaged event Christians Alliance supplies all the materials you will need Slide 6 o For this drive you set up a collection table outside of a grocery store You give people walking in a list of suggested items they should buy and donate to your drive Slide 7 o In this drive you collect all the items a baby needs except clothes Items like formula diapers wipes baby food Slide 8 o Your church then donates these items to local organizations that help pregnant women and new mothers Slide 8 5
talking points continued o Clothing drive This event is also prepackaged and Christians Alliance will provide all necessary materials Slide 9 o For this drive people who live in the same neighborhood as your church stop by and drop off baby clothes toddler clothes and maternity clothes Slide 10 o Your church also then donates these good to local organizations that help pregnant women and new mothers Slide 10 o For both of these events your church gets an opportunity to bless local organizations and at the same time let the general public know that you care about some of its most vulnerbale residents women in crisis pregnancy Slide 10 Let me share a story about how a church body rallied around a woman in crisis pregnancy and helped her next page 6
TESTIMONIAL Susan s Story Susan from New Haven was 28 years old She had a 3 year old girl and was 3 months pregnant Her partner was emotionally abusive and manipulative Susan did not have a good relationship with her mom and her sisters hated her There were holes in the wall from fighting that occurred between Susan and her mom and Susan and her partner Susan forced her partner to leave even though he was the main source of income Susan struggled to pay rent after he left She went to an adoption agency Bethany Christian Services She told them that she did not want to go through with an adoption Susan was unsure and considering going through with an abortion The employee from Bethany called Christians Alliance and gave us Susan s contact information Kaillie Russo David s wife called her and began a relationship David and Kaillie went to Susan s financial literacy classes They took her shopping during the Christmas season They bought a Bible for her They spoke to their pastor their pastor spoke to Susan s landlord and a back rent repayment plan was set up A man from David and Kaillie s church was hired by Christians Alliance to patch up the holes in the walls of Susan s apartment Now Susan is a believer seeking God and she is on her feet David called Susan and she thanked him and his wife for stepping into her life and saving the life of her son from abortion David remembered from the phone call that although practical help was extended to Susan what changed the trajectory of her life was the power of relationship and the love that was given to her 7
section 6 Slide 11 THE PIECES TO A CHURCH MENTORING PROGRAM goal This is the part of the presentation where you are going to explain to the congregation the practical aspects of the program the purpose of the mentoring and both the responsibilities and qualifications of a mentor This is a crucial spot in the presentation because many women may be contemplating taking part but they have reservations that they do not have enough time to commit The idea here is to explain the practicalities of mentoring while making sure the job does not appear burdensome To be a mentor is to simply be a Christian girlfriend to a woman in need of relationship It is fun and exciting You really should keep in mind that you MUST downplay time commitments while speaking about mentor responsibilities talking points The purpose of the mentoring is for relationship building not crisis intervention Christians Alliance provides training that focuses on relationship building only Crisis intervention left to the pregnancy center and social services The training was created by reviewing the Crisis Pregnancy curriculum developed by Light University and the American Association of Christian Counselors New mentor training gives mentors tools to build relationship by communicating effectively The training is a series of videos avaliable online Mentor responsibilities are loose guidelines that are encouraged and we do not personally check on the progress of individual mentor mentee relationships Mentor qualifications include o Women only o 21 years or older o Access to reliable transportation 8
Mentor responsibilities include o 2 phone calls week minimum o 1 physical visit month minimum o Staying a mentor for entirety of pregnancy up until 2 months after the birth of the child minimum Everything in the program is offered free of charge The founder has donated his own funds to the organization section 7 Slide 12 THERE IS AN IMPACT goal You are now almost at the end of the presentation and you should be focused on helping the congregation take a step back from all they have heard and understand that the larger impact of mentoring is seeing lives transformed by Christ talking points There is power in relationships Think about how Christianity started with 12 men Through relationship they spread the faith The trajectory of someone s life can be radically shifted through relationship by the power of Christ When you mentor a woman in crisis pregnancy she will be saved from the emotional trauma of abortion and her baby will have its physical life saved In addition when she accepts Christ her and her baby s spiritual lives will be saved That s why our program is called Save Them Both Just as David and Kaillie helped Susan you can help change the life of a woman in crisis pregnancy 9
section 8 Slide 13 THE PRIMARY CALLS TO ACTION goal You are at the end of the presentation and will now make the primary calls to action You will ask that interested women sign up to be mentors and that church members be on the lookout to refer women in crisis pregnancy to their church s mentoring program Women sign up to be mentors by filling out the Save Them Both questionnaire that the ushers will pass out just before service ends The questionnaire helps Christians Alliance and the pastor of the church determine which ladies are best suited to be mentors If the presentation has moved you do not be afraid to show emotion The congregation will respond to authentic displays of passion for women in crisis pregnancy and it will help them to connect with their own emotions talking points If the Holy Spirit has been prompting you during the presentation to become a mentor please respond by filling out a Save Them Both questionnaire that one of the ushers will pass out to you This is a form you will fill out to help your pastor and our organization determine if you are a good fit for the mentoring program After filling it out please see me after service If you do not get a questionnaire passed out to you please see me after service Everyone in the church not just the mentors should be on the lookout to refer women in crisis pregnancy to the church s mentoring program God wants us as Christians to participate with Him in helping others to find healing and restoration In Isaiah 6 8 God shows us that He wants us to do this The scripture says Whom shall I send And who will go for us And I said Here am I Send me 10
section 9 Slide 13 SECONDARY CALLS TO ACTION goal Secondary calls to action you must make Have the ushers pass out questionnaires for these positions as well Community organizers Speakers talking points If you feel that you would like to help women in crisis pregnancy but don t qualify to be a mentor as you are not a woman or are not 21 years old you can be a community organizer or speaker for our organization Community organizers will be getting the word out by meeting with pastors and explaining the program People who are salespersons are a good choice because they are already traveling and are good at sharing a message THIS IS A PAID POSITION Sunday speakers will be presenting the message to churches They must be women that can speak with passion and persuasion A good choice for speakers are women who are post abortive have survived a failed abortion or were teenager mothers However speakers DO NOT need to have stories like this to work for the organization If you want to be a community organizer or speaker please see me after the service THIS IS A PAID POSITION 11
COMMON OBJECTIONS We already work with or donate to a local pregnancy center That s great but do you have a 1 to 1 mentorship program Mentors from your church will enhance the quality of the care provided by center workers by being a day to day source of support Our church is too small All you need is 1 mentor There are churches with a mentor program that have as little as 25 members Our church is launching another new program We don t have the man power All you need is 1 mentor If that is still an issue I could follow up with you after some time has passed We don t have the money to start something like this There is no charge for any of our services I don t think the women in our church have the skills to be mentors We have a training that is based on the American Association of Christians Counselors and Light University curriculum called Crisis Pregnancy It ocuses on relationship building and communication The training is in the form of a video series accessible in the member login section of the Christians Alliance website Our church is already doing or thinking about doing Care Net s Making Life Disciples Making Life Disciples MLD is a good program designed to train Christian women to specifically counsel women in church who are considering abortion It is more intense and involved than our mentoring program MLD training takes anywhere from 16 24 hours to complete Our training is much shorter and is designed to reach all women inside and outside the church Our mentors are asked only to be Christian girlfriends that focus on relationship building and communication skills Nothing more 12
COMMON OBJECTIONS Our church is already doing or thinking about doing Embrace Grace That s great but do you have a 1 1 mentorship program Embrace Grace is primarily a group driven program and does not pair one woman in crisis pregnancy with one mentor COMMON QUESTIONS How long have you been helping churches start mentoring programs As of 2 26 18 2 years Where are the women in crisis pregnancy going to be coming from Women will come from pregnancy center referrals via the find a mentor tool on our website Congregation members will refer women that they meet in their daily life to their church s program This can happen through word of mouth social media or the find a mentor tool on our website Women in crisis pregnancy will find our website and the find a mentor tool on it through an internet search Church leadership will work with local agencies and organizations to promote their program The mentor leader will also be given a document called the Outreach Action Guide which explains in detail how the program can be promoted successfully How many women have been helped by these programs As of 2 26 18 3 women One woman lost contact with her mentor One woman chose an abortion One woman chose life and decided to parent 13
COMMON QUESTIONS What if the mentee the woman in crisis pregnancy chooses abortion We encourage our mentors to never stop loving their mentees especially if they choose abortion They will need the kindness and support of their mentor more than ever However in no way does this mean that our mentors will accept or ignore the decision of abortion that has taken place They are asked to share the truth in love when prompted by the Holy Spirit How many churches are in your mentor church network As of 2 26 18 49 churches in 37 cities How many mentors are in your mentor church network As of 2 26 18 163 mentors How much will it cost to start this program in my church All the services we offer are done so free of charge How is the organization funded The founder has donated funds to the organization 14
