The first part of the electric eel life cycle is mating and having eggs. Electric eels mate mostly in the dry season.The male uses saliva to make a nest and then the female lays the eggs. A female electric eels can lay up to 17,000 eggs.
Once the eggs hatch the baby electric eels start to eat invertebrates and eggs of other electric eels. There shock is weak at first but as the young electric eels grow their electric shock gets stronger and they eat larger food. The electric eels have a lifespan of 50 years.
