      Electric Eels

You may not know much about the electric eel so when you hear the name you might think it is an eel. But electric eels are not really eels, this shows how much you don’t know about electric eels. So now you will see what magnificent creatures electric eels are.

                Introduction

The first part of the electric eel life cycle is mating and having eggs. Electric eels mate mostly in the dry season. The male uses saliva to make a nest and then the female lays the eggs. A female electric eels can lay up to 17,000 eggs.

Once the eggs hatch the baby electric eels start to eat invertebrates and eggs of other electric eels. There shock is weak at first but as the young electric eels grow their electric shock gets stronger and they eat larger food. The electric eels have a lifespan of 50 years.

Electric Eel Life Cycle

Electric eels go from eggs to young electric eels to adult electric eels but most of the eggs will be eaten by predators so very few will become electric eels

Electric eels are are not really eels but they are knifefish. They are part of the knifefish family like the ghostfish and the catfish. The ghost fish does not produce an electrical shock but they can produce an electrical current like the electric eel.

Electric eels also are a little related to electric fishes like the abundant ray and the giant electric ray. They are related to electrical fishes because just as electric eels can, they can do electrical shocks.

Electric eels scientific name is Electrophorus electricus. The population is stable. Their rank in phylum is Chordata. Their higher classification name is Electrophorus. Right now the electric eels are not endangered right now but the might be in the future because their habitats are getting destroyed.

         Species

Electric eels adapts to living waters that has mud at the bottom of it. They also like to live in areas that are shaded from the sun.Electric eels are oxygen breathers, this means they have to breath oxygen to survive. Their time is very limited because they have to come up from the water every 10 minutes so they can breath again. Another thing they have to adapt to is their eyesight. Electric eels have very poor eyesight because they have tiny eyes so they have to use electric waves to see where they are going. They use these electric waves as their GPS. Electric eels also use their color as their advantage because they have dark skin so they could blend into their surroundings. They can use this to hide from predators and sneak up on their prey.

What electric eels adapt to

One of the ways electric eels are unique is that they can produce about 600 volts of electricity, 5 times more than a US wall socket. What make helps the electric eel produce all that electricity is the 6,000 electrons in their bodies.

If electric eels get hurt it is possible if they to use it they might end up shocking themselves. But if they are not hurt they keep itself from not shocking itself Why? Nobody knows but it is believed that the main organs are far from the electric organs.

If anything threatens them electric eels can shock that predator dead. The electric eels have such devesting shocks that they can knock a horse down to the ground. They can even kill a human being with multiple shocks.                                                                                    If electric eels get hurt it is possible if they to use it they might end up shocking themselves. But if they are not hurt they keep itself from not shocking itself Why? Nobody knows but it is believed that the main organs are far from the electric organs.

              How electric eels are unique

An electron

Humans stay away from electric eels because electric eels can paralyze people with multiple shocks and kill people.Even though people is able to kill electric eels even if it is at full power.

Humans do not really come in contact with electric eels that much so the electric eels population is pretty stable for now but may be endangered in the future due to their habitats being destroyed

Electric eels has a myth about electric eels jumping out of the water and shocking someone or something. This is a more than 200 year myth and it's true. This is the only myth about electric eels.

Where Do Electric Eels                           Live

Electric eels like shaded area so they mostly live in Amazons and the Orinoco River Basins in South America. They also live in swamps, floodplains, creeks, small rivers and coastal plains. They also like to live in rivers with muddy bottoms.

   Size of Electric Eel

Electric eels can grow up to 8ft which is equal to 2.5 meters in length and 44 pounds 20 kilometers in weight

Inside electric eels bodt cells known as electrons produce electricity. This is how electric eels create electric waves and electric shocks.

Body of the Electric Eel

Adult Electric eels eat invertebrates, small fish and small animals like rats who are unlucky enough to be close to it. The adult electric eels shock is stronger than young electric eels so they can kill small animals with a shock

However young electric eels, who had just hatched out of their eggs only eat invertebrates and other electric eels eggs. They don’t hunt because they do not have a shock strong enough to kill any animal.

Electric eels use their electric shock only against predators and their prey. But when there is prey electric eels shock it slightly stronger. Animals mostly get out of the way of electric eels but when electric eels use their electricity too much they can be easy prey to predators.

Electric eels need their electric cells to survive so they use only 80% of their electricity to defend themselves from predators and shock prey and use the other 20% of their electric cells to survive.

If electric eels get hurt it is possible if they to use it they might end up shocking themselves. But if they are not hurt they keep itself from not shocking itself Why? Nobody knows but it is believed that the main organs are far from the electric organs.

This is why electric eels are cool creatures. This book I made shows why. I reccomend you to should study more about electric eels and maybe discover a lot more about electric eels.
