#3: The Banner

You are going to raise a banner for the school carnival. How long do you need to cut the guy wire that needs to be 10 ft. off the ground and 10 ft. away from the pole.

a squared + b squared = c squared.

If 10 feet is and b, what is c. 

10 feet squared = 100 feet

100 + 100 = 200

You have to find the square root of the number to get only c. The square root of 200 is 14.14

c = 14.14

If thee banner is 10 feet tall, then the guy wire has to be 5 feet from the ground and 5 feet from the away from the pole. Using, a squared + b squared = c squared. How do you solve this. 

5 squared = 25

25 + 25 = 50

The square root of 50 is 7.07

If you have a 40 foot tall pole, the guy wire has to be 20 feet away from the pole and 20 feet off the ground. How long does the guy wire have to be? 

If a squared + b squared = c squared, how do you figure out this problem? 

20 squared = 400

400 + 400 = 800

The square root of 800 is 28.28.
