Norman Palm Springs Golf Tourney draws Alumni; Hall of Famers & Friends

Beverly High's first alumni golf tourney happens August 20, 2016 in Palm Springs, CA at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort, Legend Course at 7:AM.  A nice turnout of 20 Normans have confirmed.

The tourney, created by Mike Suter, is to celebrate the great history of Beverly High and bring Normans together for fun new times.  Normans will play the Legend Course, 1950s style with flat terrain, long par four and five holes and unobstructed fairways with beautiful mountain views.  Tahquitz is mostly played by residents and the favorite of the Suter brothers.

The $45 player fee has tremendous value because it includes cart and green fees, driving range, continental breakfast, lunch and awards ceremony.

Awards:  First, Second & Third Place; Longest Drive; Closest to Pin & Fewest Putts.

MAURICE HILL, Maurice is one of four BHAAA Hall of Famers in the 2016 Norman Nation Golf Tourney.  At Beverly in 1971 Maurice was All CIF Wide Receiver and Sky League Most Outstanding Football Offensive Player for Beverly High in 1971.

Moe was also a member of the first graduating class of the BHHS  Multi-Cultural Student Transfer Program in 1972 and followed by his brothers Emery, 1974 (also playing golf) and Michael 1980.

2016 NORMAN NATION GOLFERS

2016 SIZZLING SUMMER GOLFERS

BRAD TURELL, BHHS Class of 1975; BHAAA Hall of Fame, Basketball and Baseball.  In baskeball, Brad was Team Captain, All CIF, 2x All Ocean League and set scoring records.  When spring came Brad was All Ocean League Pitcher and good hitter in baseball.

Brad is also our Awards Ceremony MC after he tries to win the championship.  We're glad to have this BHHS Hall of Famer in the BHHS alumni golf tournament...!

ROBBIE SEIDEN, BHHS Class of 1976, is a highly ranked player for the 2016 Norman Nation Sizzling Summer Golf Tourney.  Robbie's top ranking is based on his golf teaching business and athletic foundation from basketball.

Robbie is one of the organizers of BHHS Midnight Basketball.  We played in the Boys Gym 12 to 2AM in the 80s.  We had a lot of fun.  It will be fun again to have Captain Midnight in the desert.

EMERY HILL, BHHS Class of 1974; Varsity Football and Baseball.  Emery, a two sport starter from 10th to 12th grades, is an example of the success of Beverly's Multi Cultural Student Transfer Program because he was one of many that made the sibling provision and was successful in the classroom,  in athletics and representing Beverly and his family.

It won't be surprising if "EM" has great form, a smooth attacking swing and style because we've seen it before in the Norman Nation.  Looking forward to being around Emery Hill and seeing him go after the enticing fairways and greens of the Tahquitz Creek Legend Course.

KEITH FARRELL, BHAAA Hall of Fame, Football, Track & Wrestling.  (current pic not available).  Keith was voted Los Angeles Times Westside Most Valuable Player; All Ocean League First Team Running Back & Linebacker and was also the Norman punter. Keith goes into the BHAAA Hall of Fame in 2017; should be a fun and memorable night.  Among his awards, Keith is the all time single season 1970s BHHS Rushing champ with 1048 yards and was also the Ocean League 100 Yard Champ in 1971.

It will be fun to see Keith go after Tahquitz Legend...

HOLES 1 TO 9: PAR 36

ROBERT KOENIG, Attorney At Law, BHHS Class of 1975.  This Norman of positive glow has confirmed for the 2016 Norman Nation Summer Sizzling Golf Tourney.

Robert will be bringing his smile and game west to the desert to mix it up and laugh with fellow Normans, from 7AM to 11:30AM, before the heat can beat you up.  Looking forward to seeing Bob on the beautiful first tee...!

Bob will also be bringing Norman Jeff Sklar, adding to the desert fun and eyoying the tourney...!

BRENT JONES, University of California at Santa Barbara, UCSB.  Brent is related to the Norman Nation because he went to college with Brad Turell and Mike Suter at UCSB where they became friends for life.  Jones (2nd from right) and great Gaucho friends pictured here from the 1980s.

Maybe Brent's hall of fame wingman DAVE "BIG WAVE" MIZARAHI  will be at the first tee and add some glee (pictured end on right)..!

SUNDAY NIGHT PAIRINGS PARTY

6:30PM; AUGUST 14, 2016

PORTA VIA BISTRO & BAR

The Bar Room

424 N. Canon Drive

Beverly Hills, CA 90210

Pairings Announcer - Mike Higginbotham, BHHS Class 1975

PETER PRESCOTT, BHHS Class of 1974, Owner Prescott Tax and Wealth Management.  Pete went hard on the books and it paid off because his college degree from UC Berkley is in Business Accounting.  He is a tough competitor going back to Beverly Hills Babe Ruth Baseball when he played cather with a friendly and serious demeanor.

Will be good to see P2 in the desert and see how his Babe Ruth League swing has transitioned to golf; bet he is good around the greens and putting.  Welcome to the desert Peter...!

YVONNE HARRIS, youngest of the Harris sibblings and BHHS Class of 1983, was a Norman Nation All Star, noted above and right in the Watchtower headline and photo.

BILLY HARRIS, Artist, brother of Yvonne Harris, BHHS Class of 1983, 1 of 5 siblings of the famous Harris family of Leimert and View Park and close friends with with Suters for 50+ years.

Over the years Billy played golf with the physicians of View Park who were friends of Bills father, Dr. William Harris.  He also has hit the links with Eric Suter and Keith Farrell.  The tourney is anxious to see Billy's tall swing against the tall mountain backgrounds of Tahquitz Creek Legend.

Welcome back to the desert Billy Harris...!

RICK MARTIN, BHHS Class of 1975.  Rick's skills at basketball and football should transition to golf because he had finess along with power.

If not, it doesn't matter because it will be a game changer to have "Rick The Stick Martin" on the field again.

HOLES 10 TO 18; PAR 35

REY SISON, BHHS Class of 1976; Linebacker, 1974 BH Ocean League Champs,.

An above average golfer who is projected in the top 5 for the 2016 Norman Nation Sizzling Golf Tourney. Rey's son Chris will be joining him and we look forward to meeting him and maybe winning.

TIPS:  13th Hole, Par 5:  You immediately see this tasty tee with a wide veering right fairway after completing the 12th hole 3 par, one of few holes with water.  Don't go left into townhouse front yards and trees.  This is the time for a high long slice to right or screaming straight 220 yards at the sand trap on left.  Then it looks like any two irons and your on green but be careful, it's hard to hard to execute and even if you do you take aim to avoid a three putt.

JASON NEWMAN, BHAAA Hall of Fame, 1969 CIF 3A Basketball Champion, BHHS Faculty and member of one of the all time great Beverly Hills families, The Newmans.  Jason's son, Josh, also a BHHS alumni will also be playing in the 2016 Norman Golf Tourney.

The tourney is looking forward to meeting Josh Newman and seeing our long time friend, coach and mentor, Mr. Norman, Jason Newman...!

13th HOLE PAR 5
