Windy City Sports 5 Atom Red holds off Lethbridge White Hillaby and Zane Rajcic Brenner Fyffe earned the win in the Red net while Dylan Koller and Wesley Crabbe split the twine duties for the White A huge Henderson rink crowd gathered for standing room only in Game 2 to support their favorites in a possible showdown and possible series ending tussle Early in the first the pace was frantic and organized but did not provide any serious threat to the scoreboard But finally the endto end action provided reason for the crowd to explode by cheering as the Red s Cameron Hillaby scored with brother Riley s help giving them a 1 0 lead The lead was short lived however as the White s Kieran Inaba found the twine to even the score at the end of the first In the middle frame the Reds took the lead again at 7 08 on a goal by Kasey Russell a power play marker Again the White fought back to even up at 2 2 on a tally from Ty Mabin at 13 44 But at 16 09 the Red s Zane Rajcic split the White defence and made the top shelf shot count for a 3 2 lead after 2 periods At the 0 21 mark of the final regular frame the White again trying to avoid elimination tied the score on a goal by Alex Westlund The tie was short lived as the persistent Red attack kept up their pressure and took another lead on a goal by Carter Cunningham Then at 7 28 of the third Riley Hillaby gave the Red a two goal lead and it appeared victory was in their grasp But the Whites did not give up on their quest for victory and stormed back with a goal at 16 40 by Alex Westlund to bring his team within Follow us windycitysportsab windcitysports windycitysportslethbridge one goal In the final minute of the final frame the Whites pulled their goalie for an extra attacker and the move paid off as they knotted the game at 19 52 to send the game into extra time The tying marker came from Terik Parascak League Rules would provide 8 minutes of 5 on 5 play Both teams played cautiously but each threatened on several occasions and finally at 5 39 of OT the Hurricanes Red on a shot from the slot off the stick of Carter Cunningham found the mark and sent the Lethbridge Hurricane Red into the Championship series against Strathmore Preston Walker was in the net for the Hurricane Red while Wesley Crabbe was in the Hurricane White net For the Hurricane Red multiple point games were registered by Dayton Tailfeather 2A Kasey Russell 1G 1A Zane Rajcic 1G 1A and Carter Cunningham 2G including the game winner For the Hurricane White multiple point games came from Alex Westlund G Carter Klippenstein 2A and Terik Parascak 1G 2A The Hurricane Red now host the best of 3 series versus Strathmore on Saturday March 18 at 12 30 p m at Adams Ice Center Noe Rauda Mortgage Professional Tel 403 795 3001 www noerauda com Dominion Lending Centres Mortgage Excellence Independently Owned Operated 2017 CAHL PLAYOFFS ATOM TIER ONE SEMI FINALS As the luck of the draw would have it 2 Lethbridge Tier One Atom teams would meet in the semi final round of a best of three series trying to eliminate each other to play for the crown The Lethbridge Hurricanes Red and the Lethbridge Hurricanes White met to decide who would represent their community in the Final Round of the CAHL Atom Tier 1 championship The opening game of the series started like most other games each team getting all the lines out for a quick warm up and feel for the game But that done the similarity ended there as the Lethbridge Hurricane Red started to attack their target and found their shooting range by building up a quick first period lead Goals were coming quickly after the 10 minute mark that even a Hurricane White goalie switch could not slow down the Red tallies They built up a 5 0 lead on a pair of goals by Carter Cunningham and single markers from Kasey Russell Dayton Tailfeathers and Caleb Kornelsen Early in the second frame the Red continued their scoring prowess and led 6 0 on a goal by Dominic Grieco The Hurricane White finally got on the board with a reply from Terik Parascak and cut the lead to 6 1 But a power play tally by Dayton Tailfeathers again increased the lead to 7 1 and shortly after the White scored a power play tally of their own by Carter Klippenstein to cut the lead to 7 2 The Hurricane Red scored the final 2 goals to win going away with a 9 2 decision and a solid one game lead in the series Scoring the final 2 goals were Riley
