Gilly’s Place - a piece of paradise
A bit about me
My late husband and I
had enjoyed many happy family holidays in
Greece and it was always our dream to own a
home on an idyllic Greek Island. I returned to
Greece determined to realise that dream and I
fell in love with the island of Kefalonia. Of all
the Greek Islands we had visited (and there
were a lot) this was the most beautiful. It
wasn’t just the beauty of the island that was
special - it was the warmth of the people and
their pride in their island. Fate took me by the
hand and led me to this house and the dream
came true. It is my home from home and my
family and grandchildren love it: I hope you will
love it as much as I do. In this guide and in the
villa I have tried to think of everything that you
may need during your stay; if I have missed
anything then please let me know. I want your
stay to be as relaxing and as enjoyable as
possible and hopefully you will return.
Gilly’s Place - a piece of paradise

Kourkomoulata until you reach the T - junction with the main road. Turn left, signposted
Continue straight for approximately half a mile, past the Mini market on your right immediately
after you will see a single story house with a low terracotta coloured wall on your right.
Immediately opposite is a small road - turn left here. Just past the church on your left, there is
a driveway immediately in front of you and to the left (with an old car on the right! ) turn into
this driveway and drive straight down the hill.
There is ample parking and Gilly’s Place is in front of you.
KEYS - these are in the key safe to the right of the barbecue. Please return them to the safe on
departure. Please ask for the code to open the key safe before you leave for your holiday.
You have arrived - enjoy the view and your holiday !
The Villa is available from 3.00pm on the day of arrival (to allow the villa to be prepared for your
occupancy) you can drop your cases off at the villa should you arrive earlier. A welcome pack of essential

On your day of departure please vacate the villa by 10.30am (so that the villa can be prepared for the
Please respect the villa as you would your own home. Thank you.
We have a strict no smoking policy in the villa and we would be grateful if you would comply with this.
The towels provided within the villa are not for use around the pool area or at the beach. Please use
your own beach towels.
Enjoy the facility of our B.B.Q. but please do be careful, and we would request that you clean it after use.
We have purposely not asked for a deposit to cover breakages. However if there is some accidental
damage to small items, we simply ask that you inform Angie. Any major damage must be reported and
paid for prior to departure.
Do not feed the wild cats.
For your Safety
Diving is not allowed in the pool.
Please take care at the poolside as tiles can become slippery when wet.
Please take care when using the hammock and only allow children to use under supervision.
Please use plastic plates, tumblers and wine glasses around the pool area. These are plentiful
and can be found in the corner kitchen cupboard.
Please do not stand on the sun-beds.
Please take care when using parasols during windy conditions, collapse umbrellas when
leaving the villa and in the evenings.
Around the villa
Patio Doors and Fly Screens
Please ensure that all doors are locked when leaving the Villa.
Please ensure that the lower ground patio doors are locked when vacating the pool area.
Please ensure that the kitchen patio doors are locked when vacating the ground floor area.
Please be careful if you have doors or windows open, as the breeze will cause doors to slam.
It is advisable to have the fly screens down when the doors or windows are open, especially
at night, to keep mosquitos out.
Take care not to walk into fly screens when they are closed.
If you are traveling with young children, please ensure that they are not left unattended.
Keep balcony furniture away from railings so that children are not encouraged to climb up.
NEVER stand or climb on balconies or balustrades.
• As the bathrooms in the villa are tiled, take care to ensure you do not slip when getting out
of the shower.
• The hot water from the taps can, on occasion, be quite hot. Particular care should be taken
when bathing or showering children.
Please do not leave the BBQ unattended when in use and make sure that it is extinguished
Please ensure that hot ashes are not placed inside the villa or in plastic rubbish bags.
Please ensure that children are not left unsupervised at anytime during your holiday and be
extra careful around the swimming pool, on the balconies and on raised terraces.
Ensure that your children always know where you will be and stress the importance of
staying close by.
• When you leave the villa, always ensure that the cooker has been turned off.
• NEVER leave the hob unattended when on.
Inside the villa
The following appliances are available for you use:
Capsule coffee maker
Iron and ironing board
You can find user manuals in the drawer below the oven.
Throughout Greece, it is a strict policy not to flush toilet paper down the toilet. Instead, you place the paper in the
bins provided. Bin liners can be found in the kitchen cupboard under the sink. An electronic alarm is fitted outside
which will sound to give plenty of notice that the septic tank requires emptying. If it sounds turn the alarm off and
contact Angie - she will arrange everything.
Disposal of rubbish
There are no domestic dustbins on the Island, as domestic waste is not collected from every individual house.
Instead, there are a number of centrally located communal green wheelie bins in easily visible road side sites where
residents deposit their domestic waste in plastic bags (the nearest green bin is on your right as you exit the villa
driveway near the small church) With the heat and the possibility of ants and other pests, we would ask that you
do not allow your rubbish to accumulate and take it to the bins regularly.
Air Conditioning (A/C)
The house has been designed to generally remain cool. If you do require the A/C on, there are individual remote
controls for each room. This will allow you to control the temperature and fan speed. The A/C will automatically
switch off if the patio doors or windows are left open. Please think of the environment and only use as A/C as
necessary. It is very efficient and cools the rooms quickly - please check that the units are all off when you leave
The sofa bed is located on the lower ground floor, facing the patio doors. Remove the cushions and the stepped
process for opening the bed is visible.
Outside the villa
BBQ: charcoal, firelighters and fuel can be purchased from mini-markets and supermarkets
around the island.
Pool: the pool is maintained and cleaned on a regular basis and is managed by Angie. You may
see the pool maintenance man, Simon but only if you are an early riser. If you need to clean out
any flying insects or leaves from the surface, a net is provided.
Sun-bed pads & cushion covers: The cats tend to use them to ‘stake their territorial
claims’ in the usual way that cats do (!!) so it’s advisable to upend the cushion pads and sun-bed
covers at night.
Gardens: Ali, the gardener may come at some point during your stay to tend to the garden
areas, but he will try to avoid disturbing you. There is an automatic sprinkler system for the
grass and the flower beds (don’t leave anything on the grass overnight as it may get ‘watered’ !)
but please feel free to water the tubs and the herb tub - it’s absolutely not a requirement but it
would be greatly appreciated, especially during the heat of high summer.
External Lights: all the outside lights are switched on automatically from inside the building.
The car park, wall and pool lights are on a set timer.

Firstly - Do your own thing!
1. Melissani Lake
2. Drogarti Cave
3. Agostoli Town
5. Agia Efemia (Check out Christos in ‘Captain Corelli's’ Bar & ‘Paradise’ - at end of harbour, up the hill, is
6. Fiskardo - a lovely marina, full of wonderful tavernas
8. Robola Winery
9. Lunch at The Castle – only 15 mins away
10. Myrtos Beach (Take the view from the road - it’s fabulous!)
A recommended day trip is up the west coast taking in Myrtos and Assos, over to Fiskardo then down
the east coast taking in Aghia Efemia and Sami before coming back over the mountain. Great adventure.
The two closest beaches which come highly recommended are AVITHOS & AMMES. Further afield there
is LASSI (good for water sports, but very busy in high season - teens seem to like this beach!) plus
hundreds of others. Have fun finding your favourite.
There are some wonderful restaurants within easy driving distance. Argostoli has a lovely harbour front
and a delightful pedestrian only shopping street (excellent shops too!) leading to the main square and the
choice of eateries is endless. Casa Grec in Argostoli is a particular favourite, with a slightly more eclectic
menu as well as traditional dishes.
Preview Taverna (pictured right) at Avithos beach is a ‘must visit‘. Panos, the owner, is a certified master of
wine with his own vineyard; he is attentive and charming, the food is great (his mama’s recipes and his
mama’s skills)and the view is perfect! Tell Panos that Gilly sent you..... from late June there is an elegant
