-Unicef was created in 1946 by the United Nations to provide food, clothing, and shelter to the children of Europe who were facing famine and disease due to World War II

History

Important legislation: 

-1959: UN adopts the Declaration of the Rights of the Child

-1965: Unicef wins nobel peace prize

-1981: breastfeeding code approved

-1990: World Summit for Children

-2001: Say Yes to children campaign is launched
