John MacDonald …………….2013 Greetings Brethren from the Past Masters Corner. This month I want to give you a little info on the term “Golden Fleece” as used in the EA Degree. In the lecture of the First Degree, it is said of the Mason’s apron, that it is “more ancient than the Golden Fleece or Roman Eagle, more honorable than the Star and Garter.” The reference is here evidently not to the Argonautic expedition in search of the golden fleece, nor to the deluge, of which that event is supposed to have been a figure, but to certain decorations of honor with which the apron is compared. The eagle was to the Romans the ensign of imperial power; the Order of the Golden Fleece was of high repute as an Order of Knighthood. It was established in Flanders, in 1429, by the Duke of Burgundy, who selected the fleece for its badge because wool was the staple production of the country. It has ever been considered, one of the most illustrious Orders in Europe. The Order of the Garter was, and is still considered, the highest decoration that can be bestowed upon a subject by a sovereign of Great Britain. Thus the apron is proudly compared with the noblest decorations of ancient Rome and of modern Europe. But the Masons may have been also influenced in their selection of a reference to the Golden Fleece, by the fact that in the Middle Ages it was one of the most important symbols of Hermetic philosophers. From the East Continued From the South Good counsel whispers in my ear and warns of any danger. By square and compass, Brother now who once would call me stranger. Greetings from the South, I might have lived a moral life and risen to distinction without my Brothers helping hand and the fellowship of Masons. But God, who knows how hard it is to resist life's temptations, knows why I knelt where Hiram knelt and took that obligation. Author unknown Fraternally yours, Isidro “Izzy” Lopez Worshipful Master From the Secretary's Desk Dues notices for 2015 will be mailed out this month. We still have nine members who have not paid their 2014 dues. Several notices have been sent to them with no reply. FMB362 currently has 203 members total, any suspensions will take us below the 200 mark. Anyone who has not paid their 2014 dues by December 27th will have their membership suspended. W;. Beau Bierce and I traveled to Englewood, Fl. to give a 50 year pin to friend and Brother Rudy Wilkerson. I am sad to report that Rudy has passed away. W:. Beau and I went back up for the services. Please email W:. Bart Howard (baaat2@gmail.com) to receive the Trestle Board. And contact me for any address changes. Fred Wright Well Brethren, 2014 is already drawing to a close. I’ve noticed that the years seem to go by so quickly here at Fort Myers Beach Lodge. I think this is mainly due to the fact that we stay so busy here, whether it be with degree work, work days to keep our lodge looking slick, or important events out in the community, such as the Fourth of July parade and Child-ID programs. It has been a challenging yet rewarding pleasure to have provided refreshment for so many hungry mouths this year. I learned a lot within and without that kitchen throughout the year, and I hope I succeeded in keeping my Brothers happy and well fed. I would like to extend many thanks to our Senior Deacon, Bro. Mark Kenny, for covering for me so many times over the past several months. I couldn’t have done it without his help and culinary knowledge, and I think I speak for all of us when I say that next year will very likely be one of the tastiest years ever here at Fort Myers Beach Lodge. Congratulations to our Worshipful Master Bro. Lopez on a job done so very well. He masterfully led us through yet another successful, professional, and just plain fun year, and it was a great pleasure to serve as his Junior Warden. Can’t wait to see him in his much-deserved Past Master’s apron. With this being said, 2015 is looking wonderful to me already. I could not feel more lucky or proud to be a part of Fort Myers Beach Lodge 362. J.W. Joshua Calero
