Palmetto Boys State

Boys State was founded in 1935 in the state of Illinois. In 2016, Boys State has spread all across the nation to 49 of America's fifty states (Hawaii excluded). As of this year, South Carolina's Palmetto Boys State hosted it's largest group ever including of over 1100 boys.

Palmetto Boys State History

In 1940, Palmetto Boys State was first hosted in an airport in Columbia, South Carolina. As the years went on, Palmetto Boys State took place is The Univeristy of South Carolina, The Citadel, and it's current home of Anderson university.


Palmetto Boys State is an organization that allows for young men who have finished their junior year of high school to learn more about city, county, and South Carolina state government. Palmetto Boys State is a week long, annual process that stresses commitment, courage, and  determiniaton. It is a program that strengthens citizenship, and builds an ultimate brotherhood.

What Boys State Offers

During our week long program Palmetto Boys State offers a law, criminal justice, leadership, and college prep school to citizens who are interested in these areas. Within these schools citizens will talk to professionals in their area and receive top notch training. For those who do not want to take a class, team building exercises are available such as tug of war, basketball, quiz bowl and more. We hope to see you next year!
