Step-by-Step Guided Lesson
Step 1: Start Video
(Tips: Interact with the video by pausing, to ask questions or discuss information viewed with student.)
Step 2: Teach Lesson
Show the student ten pictures of different characters from stories you have read. We will play a quick game of "Real or
Make-Believe"
Introduce the main elements of a fairy tale (fantasy story, has magic or spells, animals act like humans, once upon a time, good guys
vs. bad guys, princes, princesses, etc.). Write Real or Make-Believe
on a board, or a piece a paper.
Have the student place the book/ picture of a character in a column under either Real or Make-Believe
.
Watch the video or read the entire story, "The Three Little Pigs".
Ask the student, “Is this story a fairy tale? Why?” The student will give reasons to support. Dictate comments onto a chart on the
board. This will be a great way to model language and check for understanding.
Have the student draw a picture of a part of the story that is related to being a fairy tale. Advanced students could extend by writing
words to describe their drawing
.
Have the student share their drawing and explain how their drawing relates to the lesson.
