The dance school year is split into two halves, exam work and show rehearsal. The Dance Show takes place at the Pomegranate Theatre each May. Last year’s production, Step in Time as usual, achieved a very high standard. “Tiny performers sang their hearts out, tap dancers beat out fascinating rhythms with their feet and walking canes, others stamped big boots in time to the music, but none of this could match the noise made by proud families. “Powerful, imaginative and awe-inspiring displays of street dance, ballet, jazz and rock and roll styles coupled with magical musical theatre sketches and cute singing from budding little stars in gorgeous costumes made for an impressive show.” Gay Bolton, Derbyshire TImes The International Dance Teachers’ Association is a leading dance qualifications awarding body and membership association for professional dance teachers We define standards across the widest variety of dance forms, examine performance for both professionals and non-professionals of all ages, develop the skills and professional practice of our members, and promote the love of dance across a dynamic, global community. “This has been my daughter’s second home and family for the past eight years! Extremely friendly, go the extra mile and very professional.” Mrs Martyn “A fantastic group of dancers led by a dedicated bunch of teachers. Diane is a wonderful inspiration to them all.” Mr Thorne “Love this Dance school! Everyone so helpful, kind and lovely! Classes take place on Thursday nights at 7.30pm and last one hour. Each class is £5. Adult Ballet Adult Ballet is a gentle beginners ballet class which has a very mixed age group. The Rose Theatre As the only performing arts school in the area to have our own theatre, we are incredibly lucky. This gives our students, not only the opportunity to perform regularly, but also the chance to watch quality productions in our theatre space. Last year, each of our musical theatre groups performed a full musical in the Rose Theatre. We also produce professional in-house productions as well as receive touring theatre and music events into the space. Some highlights of our 2015-16 season will include: The Curse of the Sorcerer by Jonathan Francis A spooky Halloween musical for children Santa’s Space Spectacular by Susan Gilbrook This year’s Christmas show sees Santa jetting off to the Planet Bling in search of the Spirit of Christmas. At the end, every child meets Father Christmas and gets their own special present. One is One and All Alone by Susan Gilbrook A thriller set in a lonely cottage, where three friends meet once a year. But each of them have a troubled secret, and only time will tell which way the axe will fall. Jekyll and Hyde by Frank Wildhorn Our senior students take on the Gothic musical featuring famous songs ‘This is the Moment’, ‘Someone Like You’ and ‘Once Upon a Dream.’ For more information on the Rose Theatre, watch out for flyers at the Box Office or visit rosetheatrechesterfield.co.uk
