Origins:

AT&T started their campaign in 2010 as a result of wanting to keep people safer on the roads and free them from the distrations of texting and social media.

Keep your eyes on the road, not your phone.

This campaign has created a Drive 4 Pledges day, which is on September 19. It has also had an app created for AT&T users to allow for safer driving by silencing notifications and also turning on autoreply to let friends and family members know that the recipient is driving.  It has also helped make April Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

 

Goal: 

AT&T wants to bring attentiopn to the dangers of texting and driving and they want to get as many pledges to not text and drive as possible.  They currently have almost 9 million pledges.  If you want to take the pledge just ge to their website www.itcanwait.com.

You can download the DriveMode app in the Android and Apple app stores to let people know when you are driving. There are also more than 500 It Can Wait days where AT&T brings texting and driving simulators to show the dangers of texting and driving.  September 19 is also deemed Drive 4 Pledges Day.  Adding to that is the fact that April is now Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
