ABOUT THE FESTIVAL The Betsy-South Beach (www.thebetsyhotel.com) has a rich literary history (www.betsywritersroom.com) and is well regarded for its promotion of culture and art through a unique Philanthropy, Arts, Culture and Education program (PACE), which is the driving force behind the four-star luxury hotel’s mission. With a commitment to diversity, a natural next step is to honor Iberoamerican authors living in the United States. The Betsy’s ESCRIBE AQUÍ is the only festival of its kind in the region - celebrating Iberoamerican literature and culture. Escribe Aquí is an annual festival that honors the diversity of writing in various languages by hosting authors across cultures and languages for events and residency in The Writer’s Room. They convene to salute their own diversity; thereby transcending the notions of a dominant society that mistakenly perceives them as having ‘one’ voice. This program is funded by The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. ESCRIBE AQUÍ Team: Festival organizers are Pablo Cartaya, Festival Director, Pedro Medina León, Chief Editor and Founder of Suburbano Ediciones, an online Spanish language literary journal. Deborah P. Briggs, The Betsy’s Vice President for Philanthropy, Arts, Culture and Education, supervises the program. #escribeaqui2016
