Hey Monikrappy,

Thanks for the button. I totally wouldn't have gotten you to get me one if I'd realized I was going to be there anyhow, but you're awesome.

Dorrell - Monikrappy Thanks

Focus: Casey thanks Monika because she gave him a button.

                            Thanks for the button.

                            *******************************************************

I totally wouldn't have asked for one.

But I didn't know I'd be at the launch party.

                            You're Awesome.

Outro:
That was Casey Dorrell, who is clearly bored.

Aren't you terrified that I'll be the producer on Wednesday?

You should've talked to some fishermen about this is affecting them.

No, not terrified. Was a little worried about being teamed up with Thom, who's great and all, but I'm not sure he understands what "delegate" means. At the party, he brought up being in charge.

Thom: I'd be a great as a producer! I'd be great at delegating! (stares intently to the side at imaginary reporter and says nothing)

Me: Um.

I hope I didn't annoy you too much with my dot commentary - it's just one of those useless tech things that I yammer on about. I wasn't trying to be obnoxious or abrasive. It just happens sometimes. Anyhow, sorry for being an ass.

Hello Radio people,

Monika or I have talked with most of you about your stories. I'm glad that most of you have something.

By 1:30, at the latest, tomorrow I need you to email me or Monika (who you are assigned to) three things:

- Suggested Length
- Proposed Format
- Focus
(This means a focus statement: X is doing Y because X is Awesome)

If for whatever reason, you can't produce these things by the above time, you still have to email one of us by 1:30 and tell us why.

Cheers,
Casey

8:38 PM
Monika: talked to thom.
8:39 PM
Casey: I am anticipated bad news here

Monika: he's not confident that the piece is strong enough to lead the newscast

Casey: is it because he didn't get much or because Thom always hates his stuff if it's not funny?

Monika: ...he says it was very technical and there wasn't really much in terms of the newsy unveiling
8:40 PM
Casey: ah

bah

Monika: and he's worried about his sound levels on some of the clips.

Casey: well, I thiiiink we can make the time work even if he's is shorter, but I'm not sure what to lead with - I still like Charlton's but

Monika: he said he doesn't have his head wrapped around it and what the possible narrative might be - so he's not sure if 3 min would be two much. may be 2:30
8:41 PM
(thom)

Casey: he's = his

not following the thom brackets
8:42 PM
me: thom said he doesn't have....

Casey: oh, cause I said Charlton? I just meant other close to leads

ah, yeah

Monika: good news: jon said anna quon was great.

Casey: well, that's good

Monika: very thoughtful and open.
8:43 PM
Casey: Simon was really good about me fucking with his story plans - I think he tried that guy and said he'd try again tomorrow

he said thanks for the lead too
8:44 PM
Monika: i wonder if we can start with the guns. kim has a good track record i guess we'll have to have a listen...she said she'd email us tonight with news about the afghan piece - i can ask her how confident she is about her guns pac
8:45 PM
Casey: yeah, I'm looking at the pieces and I think it really has to be one of the three of them starting
8:46 PM
none of the other ones really work, save for maaybe Scott's if he gets a really good interview
8:49 PM
Monika: can you send me that fancy colour-coded list you were working on?
8:50 PM
Casey: yeah, the one I'm using is slightly out of date since it's from my email

I'll just hook up my wireless for my laptop - just a min

8:55 PM
Monika: if we're running short, would it be a bad idea to extend the live interview a minute or two?
8:59 PM
Casey: no, but I was hoping to avoid that

I'm only counting to 25 including wallis now
9:00 PM
25:50 I guess
9:01 PM
but that means absolutely nothing can be shorter than we have it - like we can't dip below 26
9:02 PM
Monika: ugh. ukulele solos...may be we'll luck out and someone will have underestimated their time
9:03 PM
Casey: yeah, well, if Simon gets that guy, he can probably bump his up a minute
9:04 PM
also, the interview can easily be 5:30 since John has some sounds from tonight

we've been typically running interviews as 5 minutes without that and they haven't seemed long

9:12 PM
Monika: if simin is AWOL tomorrow morning, do you want to assign someone to the food not bombs thing?

may be clare?
9:13 PM
or ariane if here piece completely falls through by noon

Casey: yeah, I think so - though I expect that she'll be there but not getting anything useful. I guess she could be AWOL since she was talking about being sick

Yeah, Ariane before Clare (if hers falls through) because I don't think Ariane's English is strong enough to be a great editor

Thanks for being super productive and timely today everyone.

It made things really easy for Monika and me.

Maybe next time some of you can screw up so we have something to gripe about. I like to complain.

Special thanks to Scott who lent me money (note that his story wasn't cut).

White Fang only lasted one year - the reruns clearly carried on.

Here's an episode summary from wikipedia (written by an 8 year old?) that I think really captures the genius of the show:

Matt is looking forward to giving a fine present to his parents on their anniversary, but Fang spoils the surprise and delivers it un-timely. This angers Matt very much leading to an ugly situation with Fang. Afterwards, Fang runs away to stay with a pack of wolves in the mountains.

probably the most canadian actor ever (take that paul gross). not only was he in white fang, but street legal, road to avonlea, and davinci's inquest as well.

My god, I am fucking terrible at coming up with story ideas. This is why I like arts reporting.

Anyhow, I interviewed Emm Gryner today and did some quick answer canadiana questions. One was White Fang vs. Littlest Hobo.

He may have been in several iconic Canadian shows, but he'll forever be wearing denim, hanging out with a wolf in my mind.

Also, Emm didn't know what a heritage moment was. She's 34 but still!

i can come up with story ideas - but then i chicken out and have to talk myself back into them.

suddenly i don't feel like going into deepest dartmouth in the rain to hang out with boxing coaches who want to help kids say no to drugs/gangs.

i don't have any questions written down. will ask the boxers about heritage moments may be...

Yeah, that's fair. I gave myself an overambitious story for monday and I'm already sick of phoning people. Now I waited to long to phone someone and it turns out it's long distance so I can't get him here (it's after 5).

What time will you be returning from your Dartmouth Boxing adventure? Mark and I think you should come out to propeller/Company House. It's gonna be a sweet show. Emm Gryner is awesome.

Hum, maybe you can ask them, Peter Mansbridge or Peter Gzowski? That's a big Canadiana topic with the kids, I'm pretty sure.

Plus, then your night can be Peters, Propellers and Prize Fighting. Points for that.

Oh no! I'm sorry. I don't even remember bringing up the dot thing last night. That is pretty lame of me.

I elicit glares though. It's what I do, so I'm unconvinced that you've never wanted to glare at me.

You're one of my favourites too - otherwise I wouldn't be all caught up on when I think you're annoyed at me.
