Ways to Give Back
President’s Message
As we enter the holiday season, I nd myself re
ecting on all of the things I am grateful for in life. Family,
friends, and you - members of the NorthStar Credit Union family - are among the top on my list! I hope
2016 has been a good year for you, and that NorthStar has played a part in helping you along the way.
As the leadership team nalizes our plans for 2017 and beyond, our overall mission is to help people like
you achieve nancial success.
You may be wondering what I mean by “nancial success”. Financial success actually means a little
something different to each person. For some, it may be paying off credit card debt, rebuilding credit or
starting a savings account. For others, it may be buying an affordable home, retiring debt free or building
a child’s college fund. Financial success can be long term or short term. It can change and evolve over
time. Establishing your personal definition of financial success will help you determine the “why, what,
when, and how” you spend your money each day.
As your holiday celebrations wind down, I invite you to make an appointment with any of our Financial
Service Representatives to review your financial picture. Together, you’ll determine what is important to
you and craft a spending plan to lead you down the path to financial success. I encourage everyone to
participate, regardless of your financial health. Even the best laid plans have room for improvement and
we love finding opportunities to accelerate your timeline!
Warm Holiday Wishes,
Jim Dean
President

Don’t Over Share on Social Networking Sites
If you post too much information about yourself, an identity thief can nd
information about your life, use it to answer ‘challenge’ questions on your
accounts, and get access to your money and personal information.
Consider limiting access to your networking page to a small group of
people. Never post your full name, social security number, address,
phone number, or account numbers in publicly accessible sites.
Keep Passwords Private
Use strong passwords with your laptop, credit, bank, and other accounts.
Be creative: think of a special phrase and use the rst letter of each word
as your password. Substitute numbers for some words or letters. For
example, “I want to see the Pacic Ocean” could become 1W2CtPo.
Please be aware NorthStar Credit Union will never call and ask for
your member number or personal information.
