The people of Florin use rivers to determine boundary lines. The rivers that flow by each place and have helped the people divide Florin up by temperature and geography. Florin is divided into four parts: Cold Florin, Desert, West Florin, and Klain (which is based of the country that occupies that area). The regions in this continent are named after what their temperature is generally, or what the cardinal directions are for that location, like is sometimes done in the real world. The regions of Florin are different sizes and shapes than those existent in the real world.

Reflection Week One

There are many processes that changed the world from one supercontinent into separate continents. The first is tectonic plates. Tectonic plates move around on the lithosphere. Part of this process includes sea floor spreading and subduction. Sea floor spreading is when one hot magma comes up from cracks in the seafloor and forces the plates apart. What causes some continental drift is the convection currents in the hot magma underneath Earth’s crust. Also, something that affects our physical topography is where we are on the planet. The continent is between 30° South and 60° South. This means that some of the southern areas of the land are colder because they don't get as much sunlight. Also, one coast will likely be warmer while the other will be cooler and drier. This is because of water currents. Overall, the bottom half of our continent may be like Greenland and the top half may be like Australia.

Reflection Week 2

My settlement is called Vesi, and it's absolute location is 39.5 degrees S. and 100 degrees W. My settlement is relatively near both the coast and a major river. Due to being by the coast. the trees will likely be more spread out which means a better area to settle in! We are close to a big river, which means we can use it for water and food (Fish and land animals that are being attracted to the water.) The food in the area consists of berries, nuts and likely fish (freshwater and saltwater fish.) It may be slightly chilly, but the people can make clothing out of animal hides (like bears.) We will have to cover up and keep warm based on how cold it can get. People can make shelter out  of animal parts or parts of large trees. They will need to shelter from wildlife (bears and wolves) and weather (rain and snow.) For recreation, people could swim, fish and hike for fun. The people will worry about large predators and heavy snowfall. Places what makes somewhere unique. What makes Vesi’s place unique is the proximity to two kinds of water, which results in different wildlife and fish. Also the culture makes the place unique. We make shelter and clothing out of the wildlife that surrounds us. We may fear large snowstorms or bears, but we can adapt.

Reflection Week 3

The settlement has a common root language that it shares with the polar settlement. This root language developed where the temperate meets polar, where the river is. Our route language words include

Sun - “Shah”

Eat - “Mah”

Happy - “Sm”

Danger - “Eeh”

Animal - “Oah”

Mother - “Peh”

Father - “Poh”

Many sound shifts have occurred from the root language to the basic language that my settlement uses. For example, “Peh” has changed to “Peeh” along with “Shah” and “Mah” becoming “Shai” and “Mai.” To write, the root family uses simple symbols and the pronunciations are usually quick sounds made mostly with the lips, and not much of the diaphragm. The language branch pronounces the words softer and slower than the root was pronounced, due to the relaxed place. The development of our nostratic group can be used as examples for many real-life situations.

Reflection Week 4

This religion is polytheistic, like people claim Hinduism to be and is pronounced “Hahms” after the founder of this religion. It started with a man referred as “Hahm” and it means picked/chosen. He was inspired and enlightened by nature (like Buddha) and believed that something greater controls it. The something that is greater is the essence or spirits of the ocean, river, and land. The organizing principle of this religion is to help and coexist with nature, since it surrounds us. To have respect for all pieces of nature is very important. Some rules or guidelines is to respect nature, avoid eating meat unless necessary, and do not intentionally harm plants. Some taboos include maiming plants, which is the main source of food, and not kind to nature. Another taboo is killing animals when unneeded, since this also harms the ecosystem. Also, there are a few holy sites. First, where the river meets the ocean. Then, the cliffs by the ocean are another, and the last natural one is the river border. This is because it is where the river and the ocean meet, the land and ocean meet and where the land and river meet. A large structure made of dead plant matter stands near the place where the ocean and river meet, made by man, and this is a religious structure. There's a holy book, written by the followers of the chosen one, recording what he said during his teachings. There is also a hierarchy based on how you treat nature. If you disrespected nature, your status will likely go down. Now, the clothing is very unique. Restrictions include not having things made from rare animals. And do not have too much clothing (for men.) People who are specially respectful of nature may also receive a flower crown, which serves the function of showing their place on the hierarchy and is an identifier of the religion.

Reflection Week 5

Beginning with the settlement of Vesi, in the land of Florin, a country eventually grew. This country, named Orage, has many things that can be learned and told about it.

In this country, the life expectancy can be estimated to about 35 years, if one survives infantry. This could be due to the storms that frequent the country, along with things like disease or lack of food. Generally, one can “come of age” when they are between the ages of 15 and 17. Between these 2 ages, if one survives a large storm, then a coming of age ceremony can happen. Fluctuation can happen here, and if one moves into their twenties and has not “come of age” then they will come of age no matter what.

This countries government type is a combination between a theocracy and a monarchy. The leader of the religion (at the time) makes the decisions and rules (usually based heavily off the religion.) Adult citizens (citizens are people who actively follow the religion and have been through the coming of age ceremony) are responsible for raising children and organizing their coming of age ceremony. They are responsible for keeping up with the religion along with the rules of the country.

This country is also rich in resources. Oil, near the coast, was discovered in a forced landslide, and has been used (mainly for heating) since. Silver was found in the cliffs, and worshipped at first, then extracted to make things. After the silver was discovered, rock was dug up at the cliffs, along with traces of platinum. Since, oil has been used to fuel fires, silver for jewelry and shrine decoration, and platinum for small tools. The government limits the extraction on the minerals from the cliffs, since some are sacred. The government also decides how much of the silver, oil and platinum should be dedicated to the religion or to the shrines.

Before all of this, a second settlement was created, called Faise. This settlement was mainly used for the extraction of platinum and silver, since this settlement was much closer to the cliffs. Once the government formed, they began to regulate this settlements extraction of the materials as well, being careful not to cause too much erosion or disruption of land.

Week 6 Reflection

Vesi has one along the coast with the access to oil, and lots of it. This region has been able to made money off of oil, and has mechanized the process of refining oil. The gathering of oil has also been somewhat mechanized, but the main mechanized process is the organizing and refining of oil, found near the coast. There is agglomeration of businesses that transport oil, or machinery that can be used in the oil business. The industrial belt in this country is along the rivers and coastlines that are within this country.

The oil industry has definitely accelerated Vesi’s demographic transition, since it has brought in lots of new technology and jobs, along with just general people.

Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde, Costa Rica, and Qatar.

Saudi Arabia is most like this Vesi.

Saudi Arabia has a increase in men, just like Vesi does. The reason Vesi has an increase of men is because they are the main labor force for the industrial area, which leaves the women for the agricultural area. This country is more likely to accept men from other countries rather than women because men are most of the industrial workforce. This leads to an increase of men over women.

This stage in the real world is usually very fast paced growth. In the real world and in the alternate world in Vesi, men  are the ones doing most of the hard labor, until they are needed for something tougher (war) in which then the women take over. Middle classes became larger and larger in both worlds. But in the alternate world, things are particularly unbalanced due to the unbalanced nature of where the men versus where the females are located.

Semi-Peripheral

Vesi has a eugenic population policy, which favors those that practice the official religion, which is not the current majority. Nowadays, people in Vesi mostly die from old age or some diseases without vaccinations or treatments. This is likely due to the lack of quaternary and quinary jobs in Vesi. Also, in Vesi, men and women are equal, due to the government stating and enforcing that men and women are expected to have equal “shares” over children and have equal opportunities at jobs (and higher level jobs too.)

Due to the large coastline, some of my land his not flat, which is where farming like this occurs.

Otherwise, near the coasts with no cliffs, this kind of farming occurs.

Since Vesi has a lot of oil, and therefore cars, car workshop and mechanic places are very common.

Also due to the large coastline, Vesi has access to a lot of seafood, so fishing is a common job.

Populations are now very centered around industrial areas, like rivers or coastlines.

Increased Low-income areas, due to larger houses being built, larger industry sectors. Also, Vesi is accepting help from outside organizations or groups in building infrastructure. Vesi is also apart of the supranational organization, OGAY (Order of Great Acceptance for the Young.)  Other members are Equitorria, Xienega and Klain. The goal is to promote teen safety and health, by assisting with things like abuse, self-hate/depression and being taken advantage of.

Concept: Cities and Urban Land Use - Abstract/Interpretive Art

Explanation of Concept

The center circle is representative of a concentric circle city model. The city model is supported by a hierarchy triangle, which supports all the city functions internally, in real life. The lines branching from the center in an “X” pattern are representative of zones or a zoning system. The pale circles inside the sones are representative of who may live there. They are representations of different clumps of people who live in different zones. The center line represents a border, and the pale circles show how people may move back and forth across it, generally in clumps. The concentric city model is separated from the surrounding area, which represents the concept of urban sustainability.

Week 3 Reflection

On our continent, Florin, only two settlements share a common root language. Those two are Mackenzie and Meredith's settlements because they are relatively close to each other and there’s no major obstruction between them such as a river or mountain range. That language originated in between where the two settlements are located currently along the river. My language from settlements never dispersed because the area is isolated. Therefore, it is the origin and develop, emt spot of the language.

Word Pronunciation and Spellings in Our Language

Sun= salisia                                  Animal= animalia

Eat= ect                                        Mom= maler

Happy= lacto                                 Dad= paler

Danger= cautial

My language is unique because it was never able to diffuse and therefore my settlement is the only area with that dialect. In my language, the words ugo, arga, tolgea, aple, and hables are unique to only my language. My settlement speaks the language at a faster rate than the people speaking the origin language did. The pronunciation of vowels also change from the origin.

Week 4 Reflection

My region, called Theolum, is monotheistic- worshiping only one god. Way back many years ago around the 1600s, a man by the name of Alicous Theo, started a revolutionary way of thinking. Unlike his friends and family, who focused on the future and all the possible outcomes for the future, Alicous was living in the present. He believed that one should slow down and take in life minute by minute instead of wasting time worrying about the future. Many people agreed with Alcious’s way of living, and became his followers.

Today, this religion is dominant in a small region of the world because it never dispersed to the nearby areas. The religion stayed among the isolated area that is n;ow what we know as my nation’s colonization. While Alcious’s was preaching his ways, a close friend and follower wrote all his verses down into a small journal. This journal has been refined and edited for years until Alcious’s death. After his death, Alcious’s faithful followers completed the journal and recreated multiple identical copies of it.  Today, this journal is referred to as the Talka. Within it contains the teachings of Alcinous and his Three Life Solutions. These solutions comprise of 1. Once must focus mind over body 2. One must meditate towards the sun for a hour 3. Focus on current events and family.

Week 6 Reflection

Within my region, there are diamond, titanium, and bauxite ore mines. Using these resources, my settlements can produce diamond rings with machinery which are very

Because of the increase of industrialization, my region has become more stabilized on the demographic transition model. The increase of jobs and products being produced have helped employ more people and gives them the money they need to support their families. That leads to a declining birth rate and a lower death rate in the population. More people are living longer lives.

Currently my region is in stage 3 of development. Some real world countries that are sharing similar developmental step stones as ours include Mexico, Kenya, Jamaica, India, and South Africa.

Week 6 Continued

My region’s population map is most like the country India’s. Both places have a large amount of people from the age 25-34. Most people do not live past 75 years old which is about the life expectancy for my region. Both have a steady yet smooth increase and decrease of people. The birth rate between girls and boys are almost the same, both being about equal at 5%. There is a slightly larger population of men over women in my settlements with is similar to India as well.

Above us the population pyramid for the settlement Pratus.

Week 6 Continued

Week 6 Continued

Being in stage 3 on a demographic scale is beneficial to that country itself but can also help other countries as well. When different types of industries started to develop, it opened up a lot of job opportunities for the people in poverty or in the lower class. It also gave opportunities for immigrants. They searched other countries for jobs and a new place to start their lives and places with industrialization received these immigrants. Farmers and business owners living in these stage 3 countries who sells homemade items have been affected greatly. Because of the machinery and large scale manufacturing that can be processed in these industrialized areas, there's a lower need for the homemade products. The industries can produce the same product that's just as good in less time and usually more efficient. In my alternate world settlements, mostly people from my outpost Carterous would work in the industries.  Most the immigrants that have traveled to my region via river remain in Carterous. Many of these immigrants are poor, so having a presence of industries would open up jobs that those people need to support themselves and their families. In the real world, industrialization has opened lots of openings of social interaction. The country itself is now producing products that other counties may want. That may lead to a trade agreement between the two places and open up trade routes for people and merchants to move throughout the lands. More interaction between the people allows for the sharing of culture. The social interaction between people in my region will change as well. There would be more usage of the river boats to transport immigrants to Carterous. People would be searching for jobs. The industries would increase trade routes with other settlements via river. This would also help share culture between the people of both settlements. People would be flowing in and out of the settlements, new people would arrive and the economy would rise.

profitable and in high demand. Because titanium is as strong as steel but much less dense, it can be added with many other metals such as aluminium, molybdenum and iron. Combined, this alloy is mainly used in aircraft, spacecraft and missiles because of their low density and ability to withstand extremes of temperature. My region can also process the bauxite ore using the Bayer Process to create aluminum which is also very profitable. This, along with the two other materials would require machinery to process each of them. There would be agglomeration occurring with the bauxite production. Due to the commonality of the ore bauxite and the many industries that sell aluminum which the bauxite can become, factories will be nearby each other. People would be able to buy the product in bulk and from multiple companies depending on their product needs. My industries are along an industrial belt near my settlement, Carterous, along the river.

AP Human Geography Population and Migration Concept

By Maddie Lee

This painting is a representation of aspects associated with population and migration. The large, almost empty foreground represents agricultural land. In my alternate world, as well as many real world cities’, the crop lands are located on the outershirt layers according to the concentric zone model due to their low maintenance needs. In the middle ground, there is a small hill with barns and houses on top. More people are living in this location than the foremost layer. And lastly, the farthest layer contains a city, full of large buildings and bright colors. I used multiple layers within this piece to show the different levels of population distribution. The first layer consists of no man made structures, the only sign of human interactions is the plowed land. This represents how, being the farthest from the Central Business District, there is fewer people than the other two layers. In contrast, the houses and barns in the second layer suggest that that region is more populated. The last layer suggests that the most people populate that area with the multiple man-made structures/buildings.

A real world example of population distribution, similar to my alternate worlds’ is Austin. A large population live within Austin, but as one moves outwards, the concentration of people decreases. The distribution of people might not be even, but decreases with distance. The ranch owners in Dripping represent the fields of crops in the painting- still relatively near the city but way more vast and spacious with distributions. The larger population in the last area also shows the impact the people within it caused. More tourists, migrants, people moving from rural to the urban areas, cause for more buildings to be built to fit the increasing need of the people. Meanwhile, the land further away from the city is less populated and therefore, less impacted.

This painting can also represent movement of people. When a country is in stage 2, it is mostly agriculturally based, but as it transitions into stage 3, it begins to evolve to industrial based. During this transition, people begin to leave the rural areas and move to urban areas for jobs. The increased population in the urban areas require expansion which explains the city size within the painting. The bright colors express a sense of new beginning for all the post-agriculture families/individuals traveling there.

Introduction

MIRABELA

Caitlin Rinehart's Country

Located in the beautiful continent of Florin lies the war-driven country of Mirabela. Mirabela, intent on conquering the world, has grown into a strong stage four country, with a large army, military supplies, magic healing stones, and valuable resources. Mirabela is located in the middle of  Florin. It is sectioned off by rivers.

Introduction

Reflection 2

My settlement, named Mirabala, which means miraculous or amazing in Latin, has a temperate to polar climate range. Therefore there are not a lot of wildlife options as my trarain resembles that of a tundra.

There is only on river in Mirabala, located in the middle of the land. While Mirabala

is located on a coast, the entire cost is blocked off by cliftes. These clifts block me off from any resources I could obtain from the sea.

However, my area has a vast majority of birds, insects, and fish, as well as a lot of plants.

Unfortunately, since there are hardly large animals in Mirabala, I don’t know what will be used for clothing, other than the people will need a lot of it, as it is very cold there.

As for shelter, they will probably have to venture across the cliffs to kill a large marine mammal.Shelter is essential in this climate due to snow and rain, and the general cold.

Fishing could be done as a source of recreation, as well as coming up with games with surrounding objects. I for one, would consider watching the penguins a source of enjoyment as well.

There are not any major predators in my area, and I think the only major threat would be the cold, or people  from other lands coming to area. I don’t know how they would see it as or if they would react in peace, or see it as a evasion and attack.

As you can see, the place I got has many advantages, such as the cold and the lack of things to use for clothes or shelter. But the advantages are plentiful too, such as easy prey to catch for food, and the river that runs through it.

Reflection 3

Mirabela do not have a common root language with anyone in Florin, because they are isolated by two rivers and various cliffs. Therefore they had to create my own language. The word for sun/day/light is “ha”, and the word for moon/night/dark is “na” Danger, is derivative from “na”, because “na” means dark, moon, or night. Danger is pronounced “nawee”. Happy is “hees”, Mom is “Seme” and Dad is “Sema.”. Animal is “Maha”. So far my language only consists of the letters “N” “A” “W” “M” “E” “O” “S”, and “H”.

Since they are isolated there is not a sound shift but there will be one over time. However their sun and moon sounds sound similar to others in their surrounding area.

Five words they have that are different are “Wewa” which means river because there two major rivers in my land. “Ae” is cliff, because there are cliffs surrounding my border, “Sow” is snow, because in the winter it snows. “Mahawo” means flower, because there are many flowers in my area, and “Nawow” means cold, because in the winter when it snows it will get cold, and they will need a word for that.

I think this represents the real world of them developing new words as they see fit. For example, they wouldn’t need a word for snow until they saw snow. In the real world, we must make up words when we discover something as well, such as a new species, plant, or element on the periodic table.

Reflection 4

The religion of Mirabela is a polytheistic war-based religion.  Their origin story is that The great war goddess Aldra across from the Earth in full armor, with a spear in one hand. When she arose she pierced the ground with her shield, creating the cliffs of Aldragon. She then pierced the ground once more, and the messenger god Chan arose to teach the people of Mirabela the teachings and rules of Aldra, as well as battle strategy. These people passed the teaching on to others, so soon all of Mirabela knew them.

Their main goals are to claim territories and expand Mirabela. It’s religious teachings as well as serve honorably and courageously in war, so when you die as a mortal, you can be reborn into Aldra’s army to serve eternally.

Even though Mirabela’s religion is war based, they are not monsters or a unorganized association that kills for fun. You can’t kill for no reason. You must never go into battle unprepared because that goes against the teachings of Aldra. Other rules include: pick your battles wisely, though war is valued, fighting and killing should be the last resort. Apart from rules they also have clothing restrictions. Everyone must wear a necklace with a piece of the Cliffs of Aldragon, to carry the spirit and nobleness of the goddess Aldra.

Aside from rules, they also have taboos. Their main one is to not join the army if you are healthy is a taboo. In the first great war of the gods, Henyenen, a minor god, decided not to fight, and the gods nearly lost. This act was seen as one of laziness and betrayal, so now the taboo is everyone healthy enough must spend time in the army.

There are a couple of different “holy spots” The cliffs of Aldragon are a holy sight because that is where the supreme war goddess Aldra emerged from. But there are also man-made places. The temple of Chan is a temple where army members go to be reminded of the teachings of Aldra and Chan. There is also the temple of Maeya, where military commanders go to visit the goddess of battle strategy to see if their plans will work.

The followers of Aldra wrote a holy book as well. The followers of Aldra wrote the book to establish taboos and rules, as well as the Aldra and other various gods and goddesses origin stories and the story of of the great war of the gods.

There are some social hierarchies as well. The social rank depends on time spend and rank in the army.

This religion connects to Greek and Roman myths. The messenger god, Chan, was based off of the Greek messenger god, Hermes, or his Roman form, Mercury. The temples are also based off of temples for the god in Greece, (example: the temple of Poseidon). Also the fact that it is polytheistic, just like the Greek and Roman gods.

Reflection 5

Mirabela government system is closely related to a theocracy, because the morals, values, and viewpoints of their religion dictates the majority of decision making. Since their religion dictates decision making in the people's everyday life, so does their government.

The people of Mirabela are considered adults, when they reach the age of thirteen. This law can be disbanded in times of war or other emergencies, in which case children as young  eight are required to perform jobs such as fishing, gathering, hunting, and farming. Otherwise children are about to help the settlement fish, gather and farm, but cannot help hunt, go on exploration missions, strategize, or join the army until they turn thirteen. Because of this law, the of age is recognized when children turn thirteen.

Once adults they are required to help out the settlement. They will choose a job. The jobs being joining the army, hunting, gathering, fishing, farming, water collectors, recording quorums, and a special few will be either in council or in strategic developments.

The life expectancy of Mirabela's people is 55 years old, as charted.

Mirabela’s second settlement is located right in the center of Mirabela, in a grid formation. they put it in the middle of Mirabela, so they can be close to everyone, because their goal is to take over the continent. However, they acknowledge this is a vulnerable position in a fight.

Mirabela’s resources include tropical fruit, tea, sorghum, wheat, as well as fish and tropical animals. they also have nickel, tin, and gold. The hunters go after the animals located in forests. The fishers go after fish and other sea creatures located off the coast and in the river next to their settlement. The gathers are together tropical fruits in the forest. The farmers will harvest the wheat and sorghum. The water collects will go to the river to get water.

The hunter, gatherers, fishers, farmers, and water collectors and required to meet a certain quota, each week. If they go over quota, the rest can be brought home for personal reasons. The quotas are examined by the council and leader.

Reflection 6

Mirabela has access to nickel, tin, and gold. It also has access to many tropical fruits that grow in my region as well as some agricultural crops, such as sorghum. Nickel can be used in small things, like food preparation equipment, as well as more large scale manufacturing, such as mobile phones, medical equipment, buildings, and even power generation. Tin can be used in many common objects like cans, kitchen utensils, decor, wrappings, and circuits. Gold can be used in electronics. Infact, a small amount of gold is used in almost every sophisticated electronic device, such as mobile phone, calculators, and GPS systems. Mechanized industrialization for Mirabela will include mobile phones and other electronic devices using gold and nickel, as well as automation parts.

This increase in industrialization, as well as the stabilization of the Mirabela population, has moved them to stage three in the demographic transition. Some examples of other countries in stage three are India, Morocco, Mexico, Colombia, and Jamaica. Mirabela is most like Colombia at this stage.

When a population reaches stage three on a demographic transition map, the birth rates and death rates decline, some more rapidly than others.

In Mirabela, this holds true as well. People are in a better place economically as a whole because they are in stage three, as opposed to stage two, and this probably frees up some time for their social lives. However, in Mirabela there is a bit of a social hierarchy. Those that achieve greatness through academics, colonization, or warfare are rewarded, and therefore jobs were that is an opportunity are the most sought after. People that didn’t have a clear shot at getting into either of these fields would probably go into industry. This will put industry workers lower on the social hierarchy scale, as well as an economical scale.

Reflection 7

Mirabela is unfortunately still in stage three. However, Mirabela has been considering creating an alliance of sorts with their country's former sworn enemy: Maximilian and his chaotic band of monkeys. This would help their country get out of stage three because Max is in stage three as well (or stage Pi I guess) so with their combined resources they could attempt to become core countries. This would also help lower their birth rates and get them into stage four.

People mainly are dying from failed expeditions, as Mirabela’s motto roughly translates to “Conquer all or die trying”, and while they haven’t conquered all yet (but we totally will) we have had many people die trying. Some have died in battles, some have died from experimentations on Merideth’s magic stones (which are highly explosive when mixed with baby powder). They are still experiencing deaths from child births as well, but their science is advancing, as they are in stage three, so those deaths are becoming less common.

Gender roles are equal. Both men and women have equal job opportunities and pay rates. Women who have children are granted maternity leave. While it is encouraged for couples to have children in order to help our birth rates, it is not required. When children are born they have three-four years before they go to school. During that period of time parents can decide to send their children to a watch center- a preschool of sorts, so that one of them doesn’t have to stay home. This is a preferred decision as they want as many people in the workforce as possible.

Our agriculture is tropical plants, but also crops like sorghum. 35% of our population is working in agriculture.

Because Mirabela is in stage three, their services are mainly tertiary but we do have some philosophers and scientists. They are also starting to have banks, so they have some quantaray jobs as well. 15% of our population works in services. These services include lawyers, teachers and warfare professors, as well as hairdressers and other businesses.

Mirabela’s city, Katako is using a sector model for it’s urbanization model. This model has the CBD in the middle, and the surrounding area is filled with sectors of different industrial and economical levels.

As stated before, Mirabela has a few multinational corporations. They have a strong alliance with Meredith and the country of Iceca. They also am starting an alliance with Max, which might end up being their downfall, or they might end up blowing up the world. However, he has valuable resources that can propel Mirabela into stage four. He also is building a rocket and I’m curious as to how that will play out, considering he is building it on top of a giant floating boat made of trash.

The reason why Mirabela has these alliances is to obtain resources that will help them get out of stage three. They already have a steady magic stone trade with Meredith, and they will be discussing trade options with Max soon. Mirabela also own some land on other continents, and are starting to have relations with them as well.

As for supranational organizations, they have formed one with Meredith and Emily. Mirabela will be supplying defense, and Emily has some awesome resources including oil and titanium. Meredith has tea, but she also said she can build me some tanks and some helicopter/machine guns, and she has magic stones, which can put us into other dimensions.

I think the Iceca/Mirabela/Emily supranational organization is like NAFTA because NAFTA is a agreement between three different countries and our agreement is between three different countries as well. Another similarity between NAFTA and our agreement, UCF (The United Countries of Florin) is that NAFTA was created to exchange of goods and services among the three countries, and that is exactly what UCF is doing too. All three countries are exchanging the goods our separate counties have to offer (tea, whale meat, tin, sorghum, gold, oil, titanium, exc.) and are also exchanging services like forging weapons and defense.

In Mirabela, we used a Sector Model as our urban model, with the center circle being the Central Business District, and the surrounding areas being different middle class citizens and industrial zones.

IGNIS

(THE 2 PAGES IN FRONT OF THIS ALSO BELONG TO EMILY)

REFLECTION 1

The settlement of Ignis did not always belong to the continent of Florin, the area where Ignis not exists was once a part of a much bigger land mass. Over a period of thousands of years the land mass called Pangea split due to the movement of tectonic plates and slowly drifted away from each other until they got to the point where it is now.

Ignis was not settled until many years later and the area where Ignis is situated has constant heat drafts pounding upon the surface of the desert terrain. Over time the desert of Ignis has become more and more welcoming to life and that is why the settlers stay. The continental drift is what has been changing the topography of Ignis by changing its absolute location and causing excessive weathering and erosion upon the land.

The continent of Florin was built up by my partnering countries and I to make it where it is now. The continent name, mapping the topography and the creating of Florin was devised as a team and the further building up of Ignis was difficult because of the constant dry terrain but I got to work around that in many different ways benefiting Ignis from where it was before. Similar things as the building up of Ignis and Florin must have happened in the actual building up of the world from before it was where it is now.

REFLECTION 2

Ignis is located in an area where many would not think to stop by but the settlers saw more than just a rough, seemingly unlivable desert terrain. Ignis is located near an essential river and also not far from the most fertile area of the surrounding desert. The founders of Ignis chose the place where it is now not just because of the good water and farming source but because they saw something there that many would not consider to be anything more than what they saw it to be, the rock site. To the settlers it was a sacred rock site that lead to their culture forming around it but it was also the founding site of the abundance of titanium. The dull rock site was just covering up the treasures that lay underneath. Though the rock site lead to be more than what the settlers were originally making it to be, the culture that evolved around it never dissipated.

Ignis is located in the far north of Florin in the southwest quadrant of the world where the climate is hot and dry leaving the settlers not having to worry about access clothing in the winter. The only thing that the people of Ignis have to worry about or be scared of are sand storms and warm fronts especially in the summer. In the beginnings of the settlements building up the only recreation was working to benefit the working of building up Ignis and leading to the starts of possible recreation in future times in Ignis. Shelters and housing was started from being made from the trees from the grove by the river but mostly from the main source of building came from concrete and various makings of stone involving sand.

REFLECTION 3

My settlement called Ignis is located in the middle of a dy land desert so it does not get many visitors therefore it is also unique in its language as well as in many of its other qualities too. Many of the settlements on our continent Florin, including my settlement Ignis, were cut off from the original pangea other continents, and have a root language that originated from in continents other than Florin. The language of Ignis came from a root family of languages including mostly an assortment of Germanic languages but has changed from that over time.  The root language words for for some common words are as follows;

Sun - Detschbol, Eat - Ravo, Happy - Rarsmich, Animal - Ravani, Mom - Wokber, Dad - Phuepa, Danger - Detten

Some of the ways that the language of Ignis is different from its original root language would include sound shifts like the dialect and accent have changed and the accent has become thicker because the ignis settlement is secluded and are not around people speaking in any accent other than their own. Some main parts of the sound system include sound shifts including that any ‘ch’ would be pronounced sounding like an ‘s’, an ‘h’ sound is added in various places and many different word after letters that are not vowels. An ‘r’ that is placed at the beginning of a word would be silent and words never end in a ‘y’. A few words that we use often in ignis would be:

Cactus - Ravikki, Heat  - Detsch, Dry - Dorrie, Water - Rarwan, Sand storm - Detthid

Some differences between how words are said in the language of the settlement of ignis and the original language are that ignis say words slower in kind of a drawl without much emotion to their words because living in the desert has the heat slurring their words to a point where it has impacted the language. The Ignis also combine words when making a sentence so like happy mom would be ‘rarsmokber’ with the descriptive word coming first. The changes over time if the language are fairly common changes because with different types of people, different environments and long periods of time, language won't stay the exact same. New words have been added and old words dismissed and never used anymore. Because Ignis has many different languages inscripted inside their own language, they have a rather lange vocabulary with many words describing something very similarly with slightly different meanings. Backward reconstruction leads us to the hearth of the language of Ignis being around where Northern Brazil is and the language developed between Central and North Florin.

REFLECTION 4

The religion of my settlement is polytheistic and has two founders, Winter and Summer. The people worship Summer when it is warm and Winter when it is cold, but during spring and autumn the founders work together to create the weather. They are the founders because they saved the settlement from evil people and the people of the settlement believe that any people who are not like them are evil and will lead to death for them. The agreement between the original settlers and the founders is that the founders will bring good weather for half the year but in between one will get a break and the weather will become unbalanced creating a colder or warmer weather, but they will always protect the settlers from any and all evil, and the settlers will always bring sacrifices of their earnings at the start of each new season and men will act like gentlemen. The goal of the people and founders alike is to live a peaceful and relaxed life and they work together to make that happen. If there is a way for the founders to find joy that the settlers could have brought to them, the founders could have ordered that. They are the leaders, the goddesses, the founders. The reason that the founders chose the place that they have settled in is because of the natural majestic rock site jutting out from the desert providing a place for the sacrifices. It is the settlers belief that the founders existed thousands of years ago, but they have Long since left the earth and exist as spirits manning the weather for them still as long as the rules of the founders are followed:

-sacrifice a part of your earnings at each season's start.

-ladies are put first and given peace and relaxation.

     -men will act like gentlemen.

-the settlers will protect the sacred rock site for sacrifices.

-they shall never anger the goddesses.

This religion is called seacrifism and there is no holy book but the story is passed through the ages. The followers of this religion all come from the same group of original settlers and they haven't traveled or changed their ways much. The rules were carved into the sacred rock site by the goddesses and at the age of ten each child, on their birthday, will recite the rules and promise to follow them always. The settlers can wear whatever they want as long as it pleases them and they are comfortable in the outfit, they don't believe in dressing for beauty. Everyone strives follow the rules perfectly and everyone does because from a young age they are all taught the same and have no objections with anything in their religion and settlement.

REFLECTION 5

Ignis is a settlement in the desert so the heat and lack of normal plant and animal life does not allow for the average life expectancy to be very old in the beginning. The main settlement of Ignis is next to a river which is the main source for water which increases what the average life expectancy would be without it. Ignis citizens are limited to what they can eat and food is not in abundance in many areas. Fish is their main food source whether it be from the river or ocean. People have to work for food and need food to work. The government wants people to fend for others as well as themselves so everyone gets their fair share adding to the population and growing life expectancy because of more workers and equal workers. The most useful thing to have in Ignis at first were things that will help with evolving food, anything and everything new is cherished. The average life expectancy is 65 years of age for both men and women. A child comes of age on the birthday that they turn thirteen years of age and inherit the work of a man or a woman. Ignis people believe everyone should have a chance to know what life could have in store for them and want to show the kindness and helpfulness of their ways. The government of Ignis is involved in the everyday life of the people evolving because of their setting and way of life originally. The government maintains the peace and makes sure things are equal. Ignis evolved into a second settlement called Stachel further away from the original, to a place better fit for trainers in hunting and the main industry workers not terribly far away, near the shore. The second settlement was created to be useful partly for training the men for being sent out to map out places and meet surrounding countries. The settlement is also to make sure that one does not become too big for safety and health, so if anything is to happen to one, there is always the other.

REFLECTION 6

Ignis is becoming an industrializing region, the citizens now have a mechanized industry created to produce a multitude of things. building and construction is important to Ignis as well as the travel the people do to lead others towards their religion. An industry has been created for the making of items like bags made from weaving grasses and the making of cloth for bags and durable sleeping items like tents to set up and blankets for the travel that they do often. The industrial belt is placed in an area nearby to the river but not super close to the village so the people can live in peace without any disturbances from the factory. When traveling for those who do, they bring many items made from the industries for trade and other tribes sometimes may fancy.

Trading with some of the other tribes has made it so that Ignis is higher in diversity of what items are made of and puts citizens and the tribe at an advantage compared to what they started like. Travel and trade has been impacting Ignis for the better part and the people have learned much from all they have accomplished. Ignis is in a stage of growth that many other places are much alike to. Some other places that are similar to Ignis and what Ignis is like and what it is going through including its development and stage in the demographic transition model which would be stage three for Ignis would be places like Colombia, India, Mexico, South Africa and Kenya.

The real world place that is most like Ignis out of those five places would be Kenya because their population pyramids are very similar and Kenya is a place that is also a big expanse of desert among other things so the location is similar to that of the location of Ignis. Kenya and Ignis, like many other places, started out the same, with few people inhabiting a place and building and expanding the settlement until the stage it is at now, but the places are also still to be further expanded in future time.

Any real world place that is growing in their demographic transition will have the demographic transition impact the real world social systems. Some of the ways that the social systems are impacted would be because the social systems started out like the demographic transition and the settlement, which would be small. The factors of a habitation for people to grow in everything would be as one thing grows, other things will be quick to follow and eventually every item of a place would be fully grown and maxed out the same so social systems would grow with the demographic transition and more people would be qualified to work in industries in the new industries.

Over time more and more people will be accepted and allowed. Mostly, especially at first only grown men will be working in the industries but eventually and one who is able bodied and willing will be working wherever they want. The citizens will become more acquainted with each other and with different types of people. People will get to better know each other through work and social life and will work together to get jobs done. The whole region will disperse around each other and diversity will be equal throughout the region and certain areas won't be as unique but each area will have all necessities and requirements for their life and extra. Items of industry will be dispersed throughout and one industry will give to another making for a good life.

REFLECTION 7

Because of the resources that Ignis has; oil, titanium and natural gas; Ignis has now developed into a stage four core country.

The population pyramid of Ignis is an upside down triangle showing small birth rates to keep the population growing with children but not growing with people so much that the population becomes unstable. Some people die of age but many die from the occasional famines and droughts being caused by the heat and the desert that is where Ignis is located.

Men are sent out to travel to meet other countries, seek expansion and trade resources for necessities. The women of Ignis won't travel like the men but they can work in factories if they are over the age of 25 with no male relatives. A few women will tend to the few children that Ignis has but most of the females age 19 and up will be working as teachers for anyone uneducated to be in a proper workplace. Women having many children young enough to need their mothers constantly is uncommon but for those who do, they have to be tending to their kids and cannot quickly advance in any working area.

The percentage of service, industrial and agricultural workforce affects the population of Ignis have some citizens leave for a term for service narrowing the population for a bit and those people often bring interested folks back widening the population more again. Ignis upon reaching stage four has changed in shape and size to acquire a more distinct look of the von thunen model. Areas of Ignis that are deindustrializing are the areas that are further away from actual civilizations or that are too close to housing units. This makes living and getting places more convenient for everyone.

A technopole is the center of a quaternary manufacturing industry and the technopoles in Ignis are located in the center of everything near businesses but away from residences. Ignis is linked to Stachel a nearby city in a supranational organization and Ignis is the authority
