Richard Branson's Biography
Richard Branson is born on July 18, 1950, in Surrey England. Branson struggled in school and dropped out at the age of 16 due to his dyslexia. He then opened a youth-culture magazine called "Student" in 1996 which lead to the the creation of Virgin Records.Yet besides him being a successful entrepreneur he is known for his adventurous spirit and sporting achievements.
What inspired Branson was the story of his boyhood idol Douglas Barder. Barder is considered the most determined man of the 20th century. The story that inspired him was how Barder refused to let his crippling injury keep him from what he loved. This story is what gave Richard the screw it, just do it attitude he has today. Instead of listening to people who said to him it wouldn't work, like his father who wanted him to become lawyer.
The company Branson first started out as Virgin Records which was a mail-order recording company. He then expanded hi business venture by adding a record shop and building a recording studio. Branson later included the airlines Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Megastores which in the end he lost. His determination of satying in the music business caused him to found the station Virgin Radio and second record company called V2. He then expanded his business and it now Virgn Group which holds more than 200 companies in more than 30 countries.
This company contributes to the economy by cutting spending if needed. An example of this is when Virgin did this in 2010 to save the economy of United Kingdom so that it wouldn't push up interest rates and so that there won't be any lost of jobs.Virgin benefits society by job creation and economic growth. Both of these create opportunities for others as well as for Branson.
