T he visit to the High was much of inspiration yet the day felt short for this place to be explored fully will take a week Took a lot of photographs even drew some of them but spent time mostly just looking at them trying to get it absorbed as much as possible The architecture of the building being highly inspirational geometrical angular shapes complemented my style of design Looking to find more I saw a round metallic dish suspended on the wall it was something completely out of this world 137 136

L ater on in a discussion with Mark he suddenly pulled out two books from the back of his hypothetical trench coat which were on Origami the Japanese paper folding technique and told me to go and play with it Taking 8 5 x 11 paper sheets and an action figure I started my journey of discovering the depth of innovation and the multi dimensional nuance rapt me enough to use it in my collection These were shapes which we never known to me came into existence as i kept on playing with it This would make an amazing collection I thought 147 146

A fter developing shapes on the smaller scale with paper on the figure I made full scale models in Oak tag paper and it look great The challenge came to cut and fold the metal look alike plastic into the same shapes made first with paper These were precisely calculated highly geometrical threedimensional shapes very hard to form by a stiff material It took a lot time and effort to actually construct these shapes The origami inspired shapes made in Oak tag was then divided into pieces and made into a pattern which would make it a bit easier to form the shapes in the real material 151 150

Later on half way in my collection i shared this idea with Maxine Stores one of the teachers at SCAD She gave me an idea to look up FREDERIC C HAMILTON BUILDING at the DENVER ART MUSEUM as my collection was about art and was all about geometrical structural shapes The Extension to the Denver Art Museum The Frederic C Hamilton Building is an expansion and addition to the existing museum designed by the Italian Architect Gio Ponti The 146 000 square foot Hamilton Building opened to the public October 7 2006 The materials of the building closely relate to the existing context as well as innovative new materials The building is covered in 9 000 titanium panels which together forms spaces that connect to the 21st Century The building is covered in 9 000 titanium panels From its foundation to the present inspires the form of the new museum Coupled with the magnificent topography with its breathtaking views of the sky and the Rocky Mountains the dialogue between the boldness of construction and the romanticism of the landscape creates a unique place in the world The bold and forward looking engagement of the public in forging its own cultural urban and spirited destiny The Hamilton Building s design recalls the peaks of the Rocky Mountains and geometric rock crystals found in the foothills near Denver I got inspired from the light and geometry of the place giving completion to my concept in making the collection it is just breathtaking structure 156

Mark showed me a film Qui tes vous Polly Maggoo A 1966 French film translating Who Are You Polly Maggoo Directed by William Klein It was a satirical art house movie spoofing the fashion world and its excesses He made this wild incursion into the world of Parisian haute couture Elegant yet scathing The opening seven minutes starting with a coughing sound of women showed Top fashion models wearing sharpedged aluminum dresses and walking on the runway filmed beautifully in black and white inspired me to make my origami based shapes in metal pieces bolted down on a human body It was also shown in the film few models literally bleeding from sharpedged aluminum dresses So it was evident to use another lightweight good structure material to imitate metal sheets as I never wanted that to happen with my models I tried out many materials and later found this black plastic sheet used in making Sloper patterns in an art store and made it look like metal by covering it with silver chrome sticker sheets 159

W e shot a film named Stainless steel just like shown in Who Are You Polly Maggoo filmed in black and white by Bernard Jackson and amazingly photographed by Brittany Mullins capturing the installation of this artifact on human body rotating the screw driver in clock ward motion piece by piece bolt by bolt showcasing the reaction of these metallic pieces when joined together on a human body The shapes created the mystic sense of limitlessness through the myriad fractured reflections in its surface just like the stainless steel concave dish made it as a tribute to the Artist 177 176 It was quite surreal to see an Art installaion on a body which felt creatively very satisfying
