What is Carlisle C A R E S A United Way partner agency consisting of 4 programs Emergency shelter for homeless single adults Emergency shelter for homeless families A resource center day center providing showers laundry and case management Cyberspace a computer lab open to the community Homelessness is a far greater issue than most people realize In the summer of 2004 a group of local congregations and social service providers led by founder and executive director Shari Bellish decided to provide an additional shelter alternative for the winter of 2004 05 From this group of volunteers Carlisle C A R E S Combined Area Resources for Emergency Shelter was born

Volunteer Giving Resource Center Emergency Shelter Receptionist Welcome Volunteer Administrative Volunteer Helps with a variety of office duties including answering telephones filing typing and sorting mail Performs intake evaluations with each guest Must work professionally in the social service field or have working homeless shelter experience Combined Area Volunteer Overnight Volunteer Stays Assists guests in using computers doing laundry making snacks etc overnight with our homeless guests in the shelter Cleaning Volunteer Washes Service Volunteer A professional who can offer instruction in a specific area the blankets for the shelter cleans and organizes shelter supplies Student Volunteer Host Hospitality Volunteer A high school or college student who assists with a customized variety of tasks to fulfill a school community service requirement Preparing Meals Preparing meals at the center bringing cooked meals in or just ordering pizza for a night 16 Member of the group organization church hosting the shelter who opens and locks the building in the evening and or organizes and provides meals for the guests in the shelter Transportation Driver Member of the host group organization church that has a van who drives the guests to the shelter when it is located outside of town
