I N D I A The travelling, the meetings with the people, walking and sensing for hours, not knowing, my studies and other life experiences shape me every day into the photographer I am today. My memory is not good. But amazingly I can still recall every picture, what time it was, what place it was, what person it was and most importantly what atmosphere surrounded the taking of the picture. I N D I A Of course all countries are different. But to me as a photograper that is all the more true. Light, collours, vibration of people, atmosphere, shapes and scenes differ from country to country, from location to location, and also different times of the day create a different set of circumstances and therefore completely different memories and pictures.! India is for me unique in many respects. A country of contrasts and creative inspiration. The dusty suroundings very often contrast sharply with the collours of clothing. The hectic crowded places contrast with the stillness of meditating people. Wealth with poverty. Happy energy conflicts with the dullness of poverty. The light is often harsh. The collours often almost cheaply sharp and bright. The people many times create an atmosphere of brooding stillness.!

The right light, the right colour, the right atmosphere. Then almost anything can become the subject of a picture.

All pictures are on a basis of what I saw - is what I took - is what you see. No flash,!no special effects, no photoshopping afterwards.

Sometimes I sense pictures before I see them. I feel blessed. The rest of the world does not exist, nor does time. Everything falls away. To be with me when I am “in the zone” is no fun

The beauty of the mundane attracts and inspires me. I like to photograph places and people as they are, unchanged, not posed, not arranged.

I like the beauty of day to day situations, and ordinary people in their habitat.

My aunt, also a photographer, inspired me in her love for details. She chose subjects like a spin rag, a broken glass, a jar with marbles. Although our styles are entirely different, we share an appreciation of the mundane and a love of focus (on detail).

The importance of light Light and the absence of light are important to me in many different ways. I take pictures at any moment of the day, in all kinds of weather, under all kinds of circumstances, but mostly I like the afternoon light.

Extra focus on the visual gives us opportunities to see things differently or more clearly,!such as for instance context that would otherwise go unnoticed because it is too much to take in all at the same time.

Taking a picture is for me a very intuitive process. I am looking at the flow of lines, the intensity of colours and shapes. Often I am attracted to beautiful details of the ordinary. A line with clean washed cloths to dry, used tools, cutlery, a bicycle, dirty dishes.

A picture can be made anywhere. I have no plan. I often find myself wandering aimlessly through the back streets and suddenly I can find myself in a place that feels right.
