Welcome to the November issue of the luxury lifestyle website TheChicagolite.com In this issue I pick out the must-attend events of the Chicago Architecture Biennial, then we look back to a conversation with the world famous chef Rick Bayless, and lastly I share the events you need to keep on your radar

EDITOR'S NOTE Kori Coleman Hello everyone! I hope you are transitioning smoothly into this new month. Even though it was just a week ago, a lot has happened since we last spoke. First off, I want to thank everyone who entered the Bucketfeet and Shedd Aquarium giveaway. As I saw all of your entries coming in I was overwhelmed but excited in your interest. A huge congrats to the winner. This was one of my most popular giveaways yet and it really bummed me out that I couldn’t give you all shoes. However, I have taken note of your interest and I’ve relayed this to the Bucketfeet team so here’s hoping they’ll give me some more shoes to giveaway. Before we get right into what’s featured in this jam-packed issue, I wanted to give you a quick recap of what’s happened this past month. As far as event highlights, it’s hard to pick just one as there were quite a few memorable moments. I have a newfound appreciation for tequila after the Don Julio tequila tasting dinner. It was an enjoyable yet interactive experience of fine dining and drinking with friends. When I think of my favorite aspects of an event, the Don Julio dinner met all of my expectations. Next, I had some one on one time with two of my favorite designers Lela Rose and Wes Gordon. Wes came in town to show his most recent collection at a trunk show in Neapolitan, so it was pretty cool to get up close and personal with him fresh off of NYFW. Lela Rose visited Chicago to promote her book Prêt-a-Party and in her book she shares her party planning secrets. She shared such helpful hints that make me want to go out and throw a party! Lastly, to say October ended on a high note would be an understatement. This past weekend kicked off with a private Joffrey Ballet performance with Embarc Chicago’s A New Movement. The night was truly phenomenal, but I’m not going to give too much away because a recap is coming soon! To no surprise, Chicago Ideas Week was exceptional! I did everything from graffiti to 3D printing. The highlights of that week are up now on the blog so check that out! And of course, I had to end the month of October with a Halloween celebration. I hadn’t celebrated Halloween in a while, so even though it was cold and rainy outside, my friend Jillian and I insisted on doing something fun for Halloween. As we headed out for our night of fun, we drank cocktails on the Metra and hit up a few hotels to pass the time. After we had a quick bite to eat, we then went to Wicker Park to party at Locallective’s The Sinner Inside You. The party itself was really cool and right up my alley. The walls had crazy satanic art, there was a dominatrix putting fire in her mouth, and the music was on point! All in all, it was a good night. I’m currently obsessed with the Locallective space so I’m looking forward to featuring more events there. In this issue coming up we talk about quite a bit. As I was putting together the features, the thought that went through my mind was is the information I’m presenting useful or helpful. The blog has accomplished a lot in a year and while the blog is growing I’m growing, and with growth comes change. With the blog, it is my hope that you awaken your curiosities to try something new and expose yourself to new experiences, so I hope this edition inspires you to see the wonderful things that Chicago has to offer. Without further ado, here is the November edition of The Chicagolite

The ultimate foodie event Chicago Gourmet may have been a few months ago, but now that we are already in November pre-sale tickets will be going on sale at the beginning of the New Year! When I’m asked about my favorite food event Chicago Gourmet tops it each time. Plus, tickets are always selling out way in advance so I want you to keep Chicago Gourmet on your radar. CHICAGO GOURMET WITH RICK BAYLESS As usual, I feel like I didn’t eat quite enough because there is so much to choose from. However, this year before I dug into all of the food I had a chat with the famous Rick Bayless about his new book More Mexican Everyday. In it, he talks about easy to make Mexican dishes that one can make under 30 minutes. For Chicago Gourmet, he gave attendees a look into his new book with a live demo of one of his favorite Mexican dishes mole. Assisting him in the preparation of the dish was Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Rick chose the mole because traditionally it can be an intimidating dish, but with Rick’s recipe’s he’s made the mole less complex in flavor and easy to manage. The end result looked absolutely delicious! After Rick & Rahm kicked off the Chicago Gourmet festivities it was then time to dig in. I asked Rick about a strategy one should employ when feasting at Chicago Gourmet and he said go after items you wouldn’t normally try, and always start with eating the savory dishes then progress to the sweet. So there you have it, we’re preparing early for Chicago Gourmet but at least now you have a good chunk of time to develop the appropriate strategy. Keep checking ChicagoGourmet.org for updates
