They are among more than 200 horses rescued from horrific cruelty by the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Texas. The horses were transferred to the Harmony Equine Center from Houston for care, rehabilitation and training, and will eventually be available for adoption. While the Dumb Friends League Harmony Equine Center does not normally accept equines from outside of Colorado, due to the large number of horses involved and the severity of their condition, the League made special arrangements to support another shelter in need. When the horses were initially impounded in June, the Houston SPCA noted that nearly all of them suffered from a wide range of health problems, including emaciation, abscesses and open wounds, and hoof problems. The majority also appeared to have never received hoof care or experienced human contact. The rehabilitation process is expected to take several months due to the condition of the horses. “The Houston SPCA has truly done an incredible job with these horses,” said Bob Rohde, president and CEO of the Dumb Friends League. “We look forward to continuing the progress they’ve already made and helping these animals live happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.” To make a donation to help, visit ddfl.org or call (303) 751-5772. with this ad.
