  1. Native Americans

Native Americans were forced on reservation. The railroad killed the bison. They lost their way of life. Native Americans were forced off their land. 

Homestead act

 Homestead act gave people free land if they said they would work on land for 5 years and make it better. They said that it was free but you still have to pay $10.00 filing.

Transcontinental Railroad

Transcontinental Railroad helped rich people from the united states because it made it faster to travel and move things. People could take agricultural product like wheat, corn, etc.

Bison

-Herds of bison freely wandered the plains until railroads were built.

-Great herds destroyed railroad tracks.

-Men were hired to kill buffalo/bison

-So many bison were killed that it impacted Native Americans way of life.

Exodusters

The Exodusters did not like the way that they were treated in the southen states so they moved west.  They hoped to make money finding gold, fur, and escape racism. They traveled by wagon or by train.

 

 

 

Gold Rush

The Gold Rush was when pioneers traveled out west looking for Gold. 

-They would have to dig a tunnel or scoop up rocks from the bottom of a river.  

Great Plains

The Great Plains are a large, flat, and grassy area that was traveled through while heading west.

St. Louis

St. Louis is also known as the Gateway to the West.  It got this nickname because sometimes people would go through to get west.
