I would not have returned because I wouldn’t have wanted all the memories of hiding for fear of my life to come back. Although there were good memories too, it’s better to know that I’m safe now and I can make more good memories now with the freedom to go outside without getting killed on the spot or taken to a concentration camp. I can go to the store, I can take a walk, and plenty more things that I normally wouldn’t have been able to do a few months ago. I could only bathe maybe once a week, I couldn’t walk around in the warehouse from about six o'clock a.m. to eight o’clock p.m. It’s good to finally be free. Of course people will still not like me for being a Jew but that’s ok. I can learn to live with it.
Long Trip Back
Anne Frank House
I think that Anne could have been a little less teasing and energetic as she was. She was always playing pranks and jumping around but, I think I would have been doing the same thing if I had to do nothing but sit around in some warehouse attic all day without making a sound. But it was life or death in this situation and she can’t be jumping around like that even if the workers aren’t there. If she had been more calm and quiet then she would have gotten along just fine with everyone there.
My favorite family holiday celebration is Christmas. I love it because it is a time for family members to get together and have a good time playing, and celebrating. And don’t forget about the food! If I went into hiding like Anne and her family, I probably would have done the same thing as her and make small makeshift gifts for everyone. Even if they are not very good gifts, it’s the thought that counts.
In the conversation Peter has with Anne, he says he does not have any friends. This, in my opinion, is not a good way to live. I feel that you need friends, to share feelings with, and just have a good time with! Friends are an important part of life, and without them, I could not imagine! All of the time I would spend on my lonesome? I could not do that! I do believe that friends are a very important part of life.
In this scene, Mr. Frank says “We don’t need the Nazis to destroy us, we are destroying ourselves.” This quote is a powerful one, that shows that internal conflict is a big thing with the confined space that they are in. All of the debates and the nasty comments, they all start to hate each other. Everything is very tense, and they all constantly argue. and to top it all of, Mr Van Daan is stealing food! All of the things that are happening, they just keep adding to the tension!
At the conclusion of the play, Mr. Frank says “She puts me to shame.” I feel that this is an appropriate ending to the play because it shows that Mr. Frank has pride in his daughter. After all they went through together, Anne still had faith in humanity, which Mr. Frank probably lost a while ago. Anne always tried to be positive, even when other people were in shambles, and that was difficult for Mr. Frank. In the end, I think that was an appropriate ending.
