The california gold rush was the largest mass migration , the migration brought many people to california.

 

 

 Gold rush

 

 

The great plains are also known as the great american desert and the Great american bread basket.  The Great plains has dry flat land.

Great Plains 

 

They had to go threw obstacles like Moutins  the mountins where hard to go around.  When it snowed it was cold and ice was covering the ground the same thing with rain when ever it would rain the trails would get wet and slippery.   Rivers people would cross multiple rivers and people and mabey even horses would drown.

Obstacles 

The climate of the west was even a challenge, on hot dry summer days there would be droughts , and when it snowed the hail would ruin the crops , and desroy the faimlys ability of making a living .

Weather 

The steel plow needed to till ( break up) the hard ground so they could plant more crops.  The wind mill would bring scarce water to the serfece so they could water the crops or use it as drinking water.  The machenical reaper was making harvest easeir and faster.

Inventions 

If the homesteader abandons the land it will return to the goverment.  Soldiers that fought in the navey can own land before the age of 21.  Althngough the land was "free" there was still a 10.00 filing fee.

Some poor white farmers and immigrants could not afford the cost to travel by train even though it was inexpensive

Transcontinental rail road 

People wanted to move west for seven resons : Gold , land , escape racism , religius freedom , jobs needed workers , adventures now  how did people get there some people would travel by wagon on a trail and people with money could travel west by train.
