Shopping Important Considerations Bring your purchases home with you, unless you are prepared to wait several months to receive your merchandise Always take time to read the charge slips for credit card purchases before you sign them. Do not purchase expensive goods of supposed high quality unless you are absolutely sure what you are buying (or unless you like the item enough to buy even if it is not authentic or as valuable as you originally thought). Do not assume that the quality and/or value of your purchase are as represented by the vendor. VAT is a 15%-25% refundable tax on goods purchased in some countries, review the process for refunds before your trip in order to ensure you collect and keep the proper documentation and know the customs process. For purchases made abroad that are being handcarried home, keep all sales receipts with you in your hand luggage. It is also suggested that you pack all of your foreign purchases together in one bag (separate from your other personal belongings, if possible)  Please note that purchases of “national treasures” for export from any country is strictly illegal and the responsibility rests entirely on the purchaser. In addition, US and Canadian customs prohibit the importation of any products from endangered species of wildlife. If you are approached by someone offering this type of item for sale, do not buy it. International agreements are such that, if you are caught with the type of restricted item, it will almost certainly lead to prosecution.       4             Valid passport with plenty of blank pages and expiration date of at least 6 months past your return travel date Visas for each country as necessary Health certificates as recommended by your physician for your specific destination(s) Airline tickets or E-ticket receipts (always reconfirm reservations seventy-two hours in advance) Credit cards, debit cards, and cash Customs registration for items like cameras, videos, laptops and expensive watches and jewelry If you have not already done so, consider purchasing travel insurance Inform all credit card companies prior to departure of your travel plans to avoid unpleasant issues Exercise the same safety precautions throughout your travels as you would at home Small aircraft may have specific luggage restrictions, ensure that your luggage is in compliance It is advisable to keep all travel documents together securely, including tickets, passports, vaccination certificates, and travel insurance documents Be especially careful with your passport and memorize its number, date of issue and place of issue It is advisable to carry a photocopy, or upload a scan to your cloud drive which can be accessed remotely, of the information pages of your passport and leave your actual passport in the hotel safe, also leave an extra copy at home It is a good idea to leave valuables such as expensive watches, jewelry, etc. at home In any country, do not automatically expect your belongings to be safe in any hotel, lodge or tent accommodation 1

 Airport arrivals: For domestic flights, it is recommended that you arrive at the airport at least two hours prior to your flight’s scheduled departure in order to clear security. For international flights or for domestic flights connecting to international flights, it is recommended that you arrive at the airport at least three hours prior to your scheduled departure in order to clear security. Currency        Limit the amount of money you convert into local currencies and exchange only what you think you will spend before leaving a foreign country Exchange money only or use ATMs at only indoor banks, hotels and authorized money changers at Forex Bureaus To further prevent fraud, use cash instead of credit and debit cards with airport merchants Be aware that only paper currency will normally be accepted for exchange, coins will usually not be accepted While travelling, cash, traveler’s checks, or local currency should be kept with you at all times and not left in rooms unless secured in a safe Traveler’s checks are not widely accepted and can be difficult to exchange In most countries, US paper currency printed before the year 2006 will not be accepted due to counterfeiting schemes 3
