With a brand-new venue, exciting fast-paced real live auction format, and a fun 1969 rock theme, this year’s event is going to be nothing short of epic!

With a great blend of art from local, regional, and nationally-recognized artists, unique items, and packages, there is sure to be something for everyone! Bid on one-of-a-kind pieces while you and your guests mellow out with wine & beer service and delicious food! Don your best hippie-chic attire (think final season of Mad Men) and join us for a far-out evening to make life a whole lot better for pets and the people who love them, right here in our community!

New Theme! New Location!

Just as American music was doing everything new in 1969, Humane Society of Berks County isn’t satisfied by the way animal welfare used to be done. In addition to sheltering and adopting thousands of pets with great success, we’re focusing on innovative and effective programs and services that are tried and proven to prevent animals from ever entering our shelter in the first place. We touch the lives of thousands of animals through our veterinary services and nationally-recognized, proactive PetNet programs like SAFE Haven and Ani-meals On Wheels.

Every dollar, every cent raised at this year's auction helps us help them. YOU have an opportunity to make a HUGE impact on the lives of homeless and needy animals in your backyard and you can have a lot of fun doing it. So as you flip through this book, stretch out your bidding arm and plan to give generously at Art for Arf’s Sake Auction. The animals thank you.

Adrienne Trafford, a long-time friend of Humane Pennsylvania, has supported Art for Arf's Sake Auction year after year, and she will be submitting a couple new pieces this year as well! Adrienne Trafford's colorful and whimsical work is influenced by Van Gogh, Gauguin, and Gustav Klimt to name a few. She describes her painting as mainly impressionistic with a fauvist slant. She lives in Fleetwood with her husband and two young daughters and is a published author and illustrator and the creator of HSBC’s iconic mascots, Spike and Tilly!

David Gerbstadt

David Gerbstadt graduated from Millersville University in 1992. It was in college that an art instructor encouraged David to declare as an art major. Without much influence before David dove into the art world and never came back. David uses found materials in most of his art. His first love is painting on anything he can find. When people ask what kind of art he does. David says, “Paintings, drawings, sculpture, clothing, toys, ceramics, and so on. I make the art cus’ it’s in me and it has to come out.” David has shown his art world-wide and has collectors in Mexico, Germany, France, England, Poland, Italy, South Africa, Austria, Spain, Scotland, and U.S.A.

Gaslight Anthem Poster

The Gaslight Anthem-El Jefe designed monster poster will be up for auction this year! The poster is from the band’s stop in Pennsylvania at the Electric Factory, Philadelphia, PA on November 27, 2012, during their “Handwritten” North American tour. The Gaslight Anthem is an American punk rock band from New Brunswick, New Jersey. Since coming together in 2007, the band has joyfully injected aspects of rock’s most universal languages – arena rock and barroom blues, folk and pure pop – into punk’s round hole, ultimately forging its own powerful, populist sound.

A professor of art at Albright, Woodward teaches painting and printmaking, and interdisciplinary courses on Latin American graphic art, and gender and the arts. Woodward has a bachelor of fine arts degree in printmaking from Syracuse University and a master’s in fine arts degree in studio art from Clemson University. Her mixed-media drawings combine painting and printmaking and often utilize found collage materials.

Woodward’s work is included in numerous permanent collections, including the Federal Reserve Bank, Sexton Industries, the Shearwater Corporation, the Cottonlandia Museum, Wachovia Bank, Adams State College, Lockhaven University, Cooper University Hospital, and the Center for the Study of Political Graphics of Los Angeles. Woodward is also the resident curator for www.artists2artists.net, a social network for artists to exhibit their work.

Melody McFarland

Melody McFarland is a biologist by training and a true artist at heart. Over the past five years, she has donated her incredible talent and countless hours to capture the spirit and personalities of Humane Pennsylvania shelter residents. Her talent isn't confined to only animal subjects as evidenced by "Willie" captured during a recent concert at American Music Theatre.

Peter Fordham

Original "Imagine" LP Poster

Peter Fordham was a British photographer best-known for his music work in the 1970s. If you own a copy of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’, his second solo album, you’ll be familiar with his work. Fordham took the picture of Lennon, sat at his white piano with a pair of headphones on, at Lennon’s Tittenhurst Park home where the 1971 album was recorded.

Mike Moore

"Paul McCartney" is Mike's first donation to Art for Arf's Sake. Mike is a Berks County artist who has been painting for years. Mike is a fan of The Beatles and hopes to capture the spirit of the music in his painting.
