I Ivan IV Vasilyevich, better know as "Ivan the Terrible", was Czar of Russia from 1547 to 1584. As a child, Ivan was known to take in stray puppies, kittens and even bear cubs...and throw them off tall buldings! As a teenager, Ivan killed people for fun!
After he became Czar of Russia Ivan became paranoid and saw enemies everywhere, stating "These traitors have rejected God’s Chosen One…. If they are not punished the kingdom will fall into ruin" and "I will not see the destruction of the Christian converts who are loyal to me". His paranoia caused him to torture, kill and evict people from their homes. Ivan was responsible for the "Novgorod Massacre" where 60,000 people were tortured to death. Ivan had his own personal totute chamber and ordered people to be eaten by animals, beheaded, strangled, hanged, blinded, burned, stabbed, boiled, disemboweled, buried alive, impaled and fried. He even killed his own wife and son!
Ivan died in 1584 while playing chess in Moscow, but now many expets belive he was poisoned by his friend. There was probably a great celebration in Russia that day!
