Travel Information Getting to the Observatory TM KIELDER OBSERVATORY Infinite Inspiration Sat Navs If using a sat nav please stay on the main road between Bellingham and Kielder Village until you see the observatory signposted otherwise you will be directed through Kielder village The observatory itself does not have a postcode however NE48 1ER is for Kielder Castle From Hexham Head along A69 towards Carlisle Haltwhistle Haydon Bridge Acomb Turn right onto A6079 towards Acomb Chollerford Bellingham Rothbury then left onto B6318 At the roundabout turn onto B6320 Remain on B6320 until you enter Bellingham Once at Bellingham follow signs to Kielder Water and Forest and drive a further 18 miles until about half a mile before Kielder Village where the Kielder Observatory and Skyspace is clearly signposted turn left o the main road and drive up the track 2 miles to the Observatory car park From Newcastle Leave Newcastle on the A69 heading West towards Carlisle at the second Corbridge junction exit and head North on the A68 signposted Kielder Water and Forest Stay on the A68 until you reach the wind turbines on your right and take left turn signposted Redesmouth and Bellingham OR continue on A68 to West Woodburn for less windy road Once at Bellingham follow signs to Kielder Water and Forest and drive a further 18 miles until about half a mile before Kielder Village where the Kielder Observatory and Skyspace is clearly signposted turn left o the main road and drive up the track 2 miles to the Observatory car park From Carlisle Take the A7 north from Carlisle towards Hawick exiting at the junction signposted Newcastleton B6357 Kielder Water Forest Park also signposted Stay on the B6357 travelling through Newcastleton and a further 8 miles until you come to a right turn signposted Kielder Forest When you reach Kielder village stay on the main road passing the petrol station on your right and through the chicane the observatory is signposted a further 100 yards on your right where it is a further 2 miles up the track to the observatory itself

Frequently Asked Questions From our visitors TM KIELDER OBSERVATORY Infinite Inspiration What time should we arrive The observatory opens its doors 10 minutes before each event is due to start therefore you should aim to arrive about 15 minutes before the event start time Approximate driving times are Newcastle 90 mins Carlisle 90 mins Hexham 60 mins If you arrive to nd the gate is locked please wait in the car park for a member of sta to arrive normally at least an hour before the event is due to start What clothes should I wear Be prepared and wear warm clothes regardless of the time of year don t forget a hat and gloves During winter outside temperatures can be freezing and even during the Summer months the temperature can still be very cold However it is warmer inside the observatories and a wood burning stove ensures the enclosed classroom area is always kept warm and cosy Accessibility The observatory is readily accessible by wheelchair users if you do have wheelchair users or any other speci c access requirements please do contact us before the event to let us know so that we can make appropriate preparations Parking The observatory car park is located at the very top of the observatory track on the left hand side about 50 meters from the observatory itself Those with disabilities are welcome to park outside the observatory front door Note that the car park at the bottom of the track near the main road is not the observatory car park if you choose to park here you will have nearly a 2 mile walk uphill to reach the observatory
